The Sharing Thoughts class
begins a new study on March 29
on Love Wins by Rob Bell. The
subtitle of the book describes
the topic very well: A Book about
Heaven and Hell and the Fate of
Every Person Who Ever Lived.
If this is a topic you would
like to discuss with other FBC
members, you are welcome
to join the study in Room 319
each Sunday morning from 9:45
to 10:45. To get a copy of the
book and for more information,
contact Lin Carter.

From the Pastor
I am delighted to announce that we
have filled one of the positions we have
been searching for over the past few
months. The Reverend Dr. Wayne Hager
will become the Church Administrator,
effective Monday, March 16. This is
the part-time role that Bob Bailey has
been helping us with in the interim,
and we have been fortunate to have his
leadership in these months (nearly a full
year actually).
Wayne comes to us with three
decades of pastoral experience, most
recently having served Tabernacle Baptist
Church in Raleigh. He also managed two
different Baptist Book Stores in Louisville,
Kentucky, and thus brings managerial
experience alongside church leadership
experience.
I told the Wednesday night gathering
last week that we were looking for
someone with a Ph.D. in New Testament
and retail management experience and
Wayne was the only qualified candidate.
In truth, we did want a combination of
management experience and church
culture appreciation. Wayne possesses
all of the qualities we sought.
There will be some variation in the
days and hours Wayne will work, due to
the needs of specific weeks, but he will
be here roughly 20 hours a week. We will
let you know more about what his basic
schedule will be sometime in the next
couple of weeks. Stop by the office and
introduce yourself to Wayne, call or send
an email ([email protected]), and
welcome him to our staff.
And while you are at it, express
gratitude to Bob Bailey who has kept
things moving administratively in a busy
year. CC

Egg Hunt Update
On Saturday, March 28, our
children and their families will
join with children and families
from FBC Wilmington Street to
anticipate Easter in a grand way.
We will meet in FBC Wilmington
Street’s sanctuary at 10:00 a.m.
for our Bible story and song
time, and then we’ll walk across
the street to the Capitol grounds
to have our egg hunt and
refreshments.
If you know of children,
grandchildren, or neighbors
(toddlers through fifth-graders)
who are interested in the egg
hunt, please e-mail Lynn at
[email protected] by
Wednesday, March 18. If you
don’t have children but are
interested in hiding eggs on
Saturday morning, please let
Lynn know.
Faithful Volunteer
Leaves Void
Jay Massey has volunteered
for years in a multitude of ways
at First Baptist Church. As she
prepares to move closer to her
daughter, we bless her going with
prayers but grieve that she will no
longer be a regular face and voice
for our church.
Jay has worked each week at
the reception desk fielding phone
calls, greeting guests via the
intercom, and welcoming those
who stood before her desk. She
also volunteered as a financial
counter, one of the dozen or so
persons who meticulously record
the totals and purposes of each
week’s monetary receipts.
She confided that when she
retired from Meredith she was
determined to keep every day full
so she would not lose sight of time
or of her life’s purpose. We are
glad that she chose FBC to help
keep her life full, that she graced
our presence with her presence,
and that we were allowed to work
together as servants of our Lord.
Thanks Jay!

April 8 – Seeking the Face of God: Evangelical Worship Reconceived
FBC Pastor Emeritus, Dr. Dan Day, returns to lead this seminar on his most recent
book. Concisely put, the book and the seminar are challenges to engage in worship
that is actually about God. Dr. Day will examine worship practices through the ages
“as a joyful discipline of the people of God, forming them in the image of Christ,
propelling them and sustaining them in faithful mission.” n
Honor a Loved One at Easter
To pay tribute to a loved one this Easter and also support FBC mission teams,
you may make a contribution of $10 or more by Friday, March 27. A portion of each
contribution will be used to prepare a small display of lilies in the sanctuary on
Easter and an insert in the worship order will list the names of those memorialized
or honored along with the donor’s name. Remaining funds will be directed to the
Day Mission Fund. Submit your request in writing by completing the form below and
returning it with your gift of $10 or more. Forms are also available in Sunday School
boxes. All forms AND payment must be received by Friday, March 27.

On a recent Sunday morning, the Fellowship Hall had the excitement of the Daytona 500! After
weeks of Wednesday nights sanding and painting pinewood derby cars, filing wheel axles and mounting
weights, the first through fifth grade RAs put the rubber to the road and raced their masterpieces!
During the weeks of working on cars, the boys were also working on creative and thoughtful mission
projects. Recaps of these projects are posted in the Fellowship Hall.

A Word of Thanks from
Urban Ministries
More than 90,000 Wake County
residents live in poverty. The Urban
Ministries Food Pantry served 8,000
families last year and FBC was an
important part of that effort. You’ll
remember that the Journey Class led
us in a food drive earlier this year to
support Urban Ministries. We recently
received a letter of thanks from Urban
Ministries for our in-kind donation
valued at $5,639.76! Let’s keep up the
good work. n
