Page 6 www.fellowshipjournal.com Favor Comes When You’re Faithful By Patty Johnson, Contributing Writer I know of at least thirty verses in the Bible about God’s favor. In these thirty verses, the Bible clearly shows God gave favor to men. Noah, Joseph, and Moses were but a few. God also gave favor to women. Luke 1:30 reads, “The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. Children also found favor in the eyes of the Lord. 1 Samuel 2:26 says the b oy Samuel was growing in stature and in favor both with the LORD and with men. If you need an example of what life is like with God’s favor, remember the name of Joseph and read Genesis 37-50 when you get the chance. To make a long story short, Joseph, who first had favor with his father, Jacob, was hated by his eleven brothers. His brothers sold him to some Ishmaelites who brought him to Egypt where he was sold again to Potiphar. Finding favor with Potiphar, Joseph is elevated to a man of authority. When Potiphar’s wife lied and said Joseph made advances towards her, he was thrown in jail. While in jail, God gave Joseph favor. When I think about all the Scriptures in the Bible that talk about God’s favor, I find the most comfort in Proverbs 3 which tells us how to have favor with both God and man. Proverbs 3:4-5 says that we should not let mercy and truth forsake us; that we should bind them around our necks and write them on the table of our hearts. If we do these things, we shall find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man. Take a minute and read through Genesis, Chapters 37-50 when you get a chance. In it, you will find that although Joseph was favored by his father, he lost his mother. He was blessed with a fancy coat of many colors, but he was hated by his own brothers. Joseph was lied on and talked about. He was forgotten by those he had helped when he needed help himself. What I’m trying to tell you is even though Joseph had favor, he still had troubles. He still had to endure hard times. The Bible tells us that many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him from them ALL. Through all of Joseph’s hard times, he remained faithful. He trusted God even when he couldn’t see the outcome, and God was faithful every time. You can’t say nothing good ever happens to me at the same time believing God for something good to happen. You have to trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. We have to trust God to make a way, even when we can’t see the way. In all our ways acknowledge Him (speak words that say we believe and we trust God to deliver) and He will. (Disclaimer: This editorial depicts the thoughts and opinion of the writer.) Mind Your Manners By Gail R. Jackson, Editor No doubt, times are a-changin! Ask any person over the age of 50 about how particular things were done “back in the day" compared to today and most will just shake their heads and say “Lord have mercy” and engage in a good old remember when… conversation. Change can be a good thing, like discovering cures for diseases and losing weight, but some things should never change, like showing gratitude, respecting others, using good manners, and knowing God. We are living in a time of confusion and acts of contradiction as it relates to the Word of God. Contrary to the urging of pop culture, reality television shows, and social media, Christians, especially girls, can lead exciting, fun-filled lives in decency and in order by making wise choices and without compromising their Christian character. To help girls grow in faith and live carefree lives is a mentoring program called, Tea Time Etiquette Camp for Girls. This program was created out of divine inspiration and concern for the future that young girls are facing in this generation. Tea Time Etiquette Camp for Girls is designed to teach girls about God’s unconditional love and His faithfulness towards them. Campers will also learn to respect themselves and others, self expression, church etiquette, and proper social behavior and so much more. The Tea Time Etiquette Camp for Girls has been created to help girls grow in their faith every day in every way. Individuals need to learn proper table manners and social skills now more than ever. Competition for acceptance into colleges and good jobs is becoming increasingly tough and those who possess social skills that are well developed and natural will stand out in the crowd and have a big leg up on their peers. Respecting and valuing others, developing high integrity, and making others feel at ease are the key reasons that society practices good manners. In this regard, Tea Time Etiquette Camp for Girls will introduce campers to tea parties resulting in exposure to extraordinary experiences that will play a positive role in character development. For more information about what this program has to offer, see our ad on page 5 or visit our website at teatimeetiquette.com. Volunteers are certainly invited to participate in this fun-filled experience. High school seniors and college students are encouraged to volunteer in exchange for community service hours. Classy ladies, proper ladies, especially retirees, who could impart proper table manners and would like to make a positive difference in the future of girls are encouraged to join us. Just an hour or two each day towards teaching the art of fine dining is appreciated. Contact info may be found on page 5. Tea Time Etiquette Camp for Girls brings out all that is “good” in girls.
