Enriching lives and community Positions available at the Fernie Heritage Library: Page and Summer Program Assistants We are looking for some new people to join the Fernie Heritage Library team. Do you enjoy being around people? Are you a ‘bookish’ person who loves learning new things? Are you social media savvy and comfortable with computers? Working in the library is busy and full of variety – it is never boring. You will work with an amazing group of people, the staff, volunteers and our wonderful patrons. PAGE The Page position is initially a temporary part-time position (10 – 15 hours per week), with additional hours scheduled for vacation coverage, and opportunity for advancement. Applicants must be available to work evenings and weekends. Relevant skills and abilities include excellent communication and customer service skills, computer literacy, and the willingness to learn library skills. Applicants must be prepared and able to push/pull book carts, use stairs, bend, squat, and reach above your head. This temporary position pays $12 / hour and the successful applicant will be subject to the current collective agreement between the Fernie Public Library Association and CUPE Local 2093. SUMMER PROGRAM ASSISTANTS – Community Outreach and Programming Two temporary positions, 35 hours / week running from May 5 – August 28 2015 (funding dependant) Responsibilities include coordinating and running the Summer Reading Club, implementing library programming and delivering library services inside the library and out in the community, assisting and presenting the Fernie Children’s Festival, and delivering library programs and service to the community with the Fernie Book Bike. The successful applicants will enjoy working with the public, in particular with children, be flexible and willing to learn, be physically fit and enjoy the outdoors, be organized, have a positive attitude, love books and learning, and be able to work a flexible shift schedule including some evenings and weekends. Event and / or programming experience is an asset. To qualify for these positions, the applicant must be between 18-30 years of age, a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant, and be returning to a post-secondary institution in September 2015. The wage rate is $13.50 / hour and the successful applicants will be subject to the current collective agreement between the Fernie Public Library Association and CUPE Local 2093.
