Forest Hills Friday News May 1, 2015 I had a wonderful experience driving to work the other day. As I was driving through the backroads, I looked in my rear view mirror and saw an amazing site. God’s artistic hand was at work again. The sunrise was absolutely stunning. Looking backwards, I could see the bright light of the sun as it prepared me for the day ahead. Isn’t that true with our life! We look in our rear view mirror, and praise God that we have the Son shining in our past. Praise God that Jesus was the light of the world who rose out of the darkness in which the world was consumed. We look at the past and can see the darkness all around, but just as the sun broke the darkness of my rear view mirror, Jesus’ victory shines a light that will never be hidden or diminished. At the same time as the view in my rear view mirror was spectacular, the song, “Day One” by Matthew West was playing on the radio. There was a specific lyric line that hit me as I listened. The line states the following, “Every single day your grace reminds me that my best days are not behind me.” Looking back and see the amazing love of God is a focus that we all need to have. However, just like driving a car, our focus can’t solely be on the rear view mirror. We have to look ahead and see where we’re going. The light of the cross shines on our path, and the promises and grace of God remind us that we have some amazing days yet to come. God’s grace, His love, His mercy surround us every day. Not only do they lead us on the path of life, they form the path itself. God’s promises to be by your side and to walk with you are the exact grace moments that Matthew West sings about. God’s love for us brings about the sure and certain knowledge that we do have amazing days ahead. We read in Scripture that Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. When we struggle with things in life, when things don’t go the way we had hoped, when we feel like the mountain ahead of us is bigger than the valley behind, we can look back, see the Son of God shining from the empty tomb, and look forward knowing that His light will carry us on each and every step. God is in all aspects of your life. He’s in the past, He’s in the future, and we need to remember that He’s in every single one of our ‘presents.’ Each moment you live, God is with you. He is there to lift you up, there to encourage, there to equip, there to support, and simply there to be with you. No matter what you face, His grace is sufficient for you. This week, I encourage you to pause and look in the rear view mirror of your life. See the grace and love of God shining and illuminating your future. Look ahead and walk confidently knowing that God will be by your side for your entire life. Then, pause to talk to God, thanking Him that He is with you in the present. The truth of God’s love will see you through everything you face. God bless!
