FRAMES OF MIND ® – Participatory Digital Arts Salmagundi Films is an arts organisation based in Stratford and founded by Zoë Flynn and Bo Chapman in 2004. We work with all ages and abilities, across the community, using accessible digital technology as a therapeutic communication tool, to give people a voice. We work to people’s strengths, never underestimating what is possible. Our projects are devised from a series of carefully constructed modules, which have built in success in terms of engagement and aesthetic quality. Over the last few years we have been using iPads for their accessibility and versatility, to provide A wider range of interactive Digital Arts activities such as - soundscapes, drawing, painting, image Manipulation and, of course, film making and stop frame animation. CREATIVE iPAD PROJECTS THE PERSON WITHIN – Digital Self Portraits A Frames of Mind digital Arts Project commissioned by Central & Cecil in eight residential care homes across London. Salmagundi Films worked with residents and staff to produce a collection of vibrant Digital Self Portraits for a touring exhibition. Exhibition launch at Menier Chocolate Factory May 2015. PERCEPTIONS AND REFLECTIONS – a multi media Hockney inspired exhibition A multi-media Hockney inspired exhibition with Dulwich Picture Gallery and Redthread Youth Club. David Hockney's printing techniques were reinterpreted using creative iPad animation and photography Apps. The work produced was exhibited as a multi media exhibition at Dulwich Picture Gallery. DARINGLY ABLE – Documentary Film, iPad Animation Commissioned by Jewish Care to celebrate the expertise, stories and creativity of the staff and residents of a much-loved care home on the eve of its move to a new site. Learning new skills together ‘Daringly Able’ helped ease the trauma of transition. The film is now being used as a valuable training and best practice resource across Jewish Care. FRAMES OF MIND @ 42 - iPad training and research A research and development digital Arts project with Westminster Arts and Housing 21 to explore hands on the potential of iPads as a sustainable creative tool in a Dementia Day care facility. Salmagundi films trained staff to deliver modules of creative activities on iPads including Photography, film, animation and group You Tube Activities. GOODMAYES HOSPITAL - public art commission Vision Redbridge Culture and Leisure (VRCL) on behalf of the London Borough of Redbridge and North East London Foundation Trust (NELFT) Salmagundi films delivered a participatory film and animation project with Mental Health service users and other groups in the community to explore perceptions of mental health, increase understanding and challenge stigma. The content has informed the brief for a public art commission ‘Spectrum’ by Anna Heinrich & Leon Palmer to be installed within the grounds of Goodmayes Hospital on 24/03/15 http://salmagundifilms.co.uk/Campaigns COMMUNITY PROJECTS EDUCATIONAL PROJECTS ‘SUMMER HORRORDAYS – Newham Summer School Courses for 14-16 year olds. Teaching the language of film through the genre of ‘Horror’ using stop frame animation to produce special effects. ANIMATING THE WORD – SURE START A family learning project run over 4 years at 10 nurseries. Parallel activities were provided for young children allowing their parents and carers to learn new skills and make animated films about issues, which concerned them. CREATIVE PARTNERSHIPS – Colegrave Primary School Staff and Yr 4 pupils were trained in filmmaking and stop frame animation to deliver a sustainable project around the theme of games. The films, and interactive quiz game were presented at Stratford Picture House and at The Museum of London EMOTIONAL LITERACY – Newham PLSU Commissioned by Newham Behaviour Advisory Support Unit, (BSDAT) funded by Excellence In The Cities (EiC) to work with the 3 Primary Learning Support Units in Newham, to produce animations based around the theme of emotional literacy. Showcased at Stratford Picture House GROWING ON YOU – Sheringham Nursery Funded by The Newham Ethnic Minority Achievement Grant and Sheringham Nursery, based around themes of growth, and life cycles. Giant installations and projection screens, playing with scale to provoke reaction from the children and stimulate language, transformed the nursery. THE VAULT – Newham Tower Hamlets ‘Animation Factory’ and ‘Kitchen Sink Drama’ One-day master classes in animation with young people, in association with the East End Film Festival. CAMPAIGNS COCKNEY SPARROW TWEETS – Lloyd Park Heritage Group A participatory film funded by Heritage Lottery Fund with over 50’s group. Celebrating the heritage and park life of Lloyd Park. Participants learned stop frame animation, wrote the script and performed in this quirky film featuring talking squirrels, flowerpot heads and bowlers in their whites animated on a skate park. WATTS THE POINT – The Raindance East Film Festival and The Lift Festival (Stratford) An eyesore for some a home with a view for others, a community responds to the demolition of a tower block, Watts Point. A pub singer impersonating Elvis provides the soundtrack as diggers methodically eat through the mountain of rubble. CLAYS LANE DIARIES: Open City Docs FESt London 2012. The East London Film Festival, at the Rio Cinema Dalston and at ‘Visions of the Olympics’ exhibition at The Nunnery, Bow Arts Trust. Funded by the DfES and backed by The Travellers Education Trust. An animation/film project with the Travellers at Clays Lane E15 to celebrate their culture and 30 years of living on the site, before leaving to make way for the Olympic development. SHELTER – Keys To The Future (Newham) Commissioned by Shelter, funded by Awards for All. Salmagundi worked with vulnerable teenagers in Newham to produce short animations to raise awareness about the effects of living in short term accommodation.
