Brothers,
I am very proud to introduce to you the Spring 2015
initiates of the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter. They are
shown in the photo to the right with me and they are
(l-r) Brothers Javar Holimon, Rodney Jacks, Ken Booker,
and Carzel Bostic. Brothers, welcome to the Bond!
The month of March and its weather went out like a lion.
Spring is here and the chapter continues to create new
initiatives. The MBA Partnership with St. Joseph’s
University, giving the chapter a 35th committee, is one such example. This partnership is a great opportunity
for brothers of all ages to achieve in education, and it is a shining example of how we, as a chapter, intend to
continue to find valuable resources for our members. The identification of partners and the implementation of
creative strategies that can mitigate the rising cost of education could be valuable assets to our younger
brothers as they strive to achieve their goals in life.
The Philadelphia Alumni Chapter has again taken the challenge to help others with our philanthropy. A recent
example is our donation to St. Martin De Porres School. Sister Nancy was grateful for the donation and she
was truly surprised when I showed up to personally deliver the donation to her. May God bless what this
school is doing for African American youth in North Philadelphia.
In the month of March, the Philadelphia Kappa Silhouettes sponsored another fabulous Fashion Show that was
full of clothing to purchase and entertainment. The Silhouettes continue to set the bar high when it comes to
putting on a great event. The Silhouettes followed that up by showing up in numbers to the 85th Northeastern
Province Council Meeting. We were delighted to see Silhouette Karen Dean, President of The Philadelphia
Kappa Silhouettes, as well as many other Silhouettes of Brothers of the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter.
In closing, the 85th Northeastern Province Council meeting was an important gathering of over two hundred
and fifty brothers, 21 of which crossed the burning sands that weekend. The Philadelphia Alumni Chapter
bought home the Reclamation Award (Large Chapter) and Brother Louis A. Williams, Jr. bought home the
Province Council’s Samuel C. Hamilton Achievement Award. There were six applicants and only two winners.
Brother Williams, we sincerely appreciate and recognize your continued efforts to assist our chapter and, more
importantly, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Remember Brothers, God wants us all to look good and feel good, but we must also be good and do good.
May God Continue To Bless You All!

SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
Submitted by: Brother Charlie Greene
At the April meeting of the Senior Affairs Committee our
Treasurer Brother Rob Ridley reported we had 42 dues
paying Brothers on the roll. It was reported by several
Brothers who have lengthy tenure with the Committee that
this was a record. But there is still considerable room for
other Brothers who are age eligible to come out and join in
this important fellowship for our mature Brothers.
The next and final SAC meeting of the current program year
will be held on Thursday, June 4th at 11:30 AM sharp. Our
meetings are held at the Kappa Achievement Center. A
catered lunch and fellowship follows our business session.
Well the 2015 Black History Month Reception has become
history itself. However, the fruits of the effort live on. At the
April Chapter meeting, SAC will present checks to the Kappa
Achievement Academy and the HBCU College Tour for $1000
and $400 respectively. Plans are underway for the
renovation and beautification of the rear entrance foyer to
the Achievement Center and the hallways leading to the first
floor gathering room and to the steps leading to the second
floor. The SAC is prepared to initiate this project as soon as
the soda machine is removed from the entrance area.
The SAC, in conjunction with the Political Action and
Community Outreach committees, conducted a voter
registration project at Germantown and Chelten Avenues on
April 11th. This was another effort at providing service to the
residents in our neighborhood.
It was great to see Brother Norm Spencer back at our last
meeting.

APRIL MEMORIES
Submitted By: Brother Rodney Whitmire
On April 17, 1963, Brother Dr. James Batts presented a
paper before the Board of Education Special Committee on
Non-Discrimination. A portrait of Dr. James Batts hangs
on the walls of Temple University. Similarly, we were
recently informed that the University of Pennsylvania's law
school intends to honor Brother Theodore Milton Selden,
one of Epsilon Chapter's charter members, by erecting a
plaque in his honor at the law school. Brother Selden was a
graduate of Lincoln University and Dartmouth College
before attending Penn Law School. While attending law
school he died in a train crash working as a Pullman Porter.

On April 1, 1962, Brothers Enos Andrews, L.P. Clark,
John N. Williams and Merritt W. Wilson attended Penn
State’s undergraduate “smoker”. I bet that it was a treat for
those young men who were in attendance on April Fool’s Day. The 6th Annual Achievement Award
Dinner was held in 1962 on April 27th at the Treadway Inn in St. Davids, PA. Brother Lancelot Tynes,
Polemarch, was the 1962 Honoree and Brother James Batts was the 1961 Honoree. Brother C. Otis
Stout was the Speaker and others on the program included Brothers H.H. Holloway and LeRoy Murray.
Brothers Ledell D. Lipscomb and Arthur J. Slater were selected as Achievement Awards Recipients
for the 1997 Fraternity year. Congratulations were also in order for Past Polemarch Richard Lee Snow
who received the Province Alumni Achievement Award at the closed banquet at the 67th Provincial
meeting in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The Northeastern Province Meeting was held here in Philadelphia April 9th thru April 11th 1982 at
the Sheraton Philadelphia Centre Hotel. The address at the public meeting was given by Laurel Wreath
Laureate, Dr. Leon H. Sullivan. Brother Melvin L. Taylor, who was the Northeastern Province
Polemarch, called the meeting “One of the most innovative Province Council Meetings ever held in the
Northeastern Province.” Brother Harold Rush, Polemarch of the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter, gave the
welcome and Brother Samuel Hamilton of Hartford Alumni led the memorial services.
On April 18th 2015 The Delta Eta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi will celebrate its 63rd Anniversary.
Brother Mark Canty was the president of the 1st Scroller’s Club line to be initiated into the Delta Eta
Chapter.
