Welcome to First Presbyterian Church! We are so glad that you are here. We hope that joining us for
worship today will nurture your heart and transform your mind. Here at First Pres our mission is transforming
lives through the love of Jesus Christ, that simple and that challenging. We realize we need each other and
commit to pray for each other. We reach out in love and compassion to a world in need, and we know we are a
work in progress.

Minister: We are a called people. God calls and empowers us to be servant-hearted disciples. Within the
faith community, some are called to a particular service as Deacons, Elders, and Ministers of the
Word and Sacrament.

Representing Christ’s universal church and family, the Session of First Presbyterian Church now

*Music Note: This morning’s offering “Give Me Jesus” is a setting of the spiritual. The text speaks about Jesus
being the slaves’ closest and most reliable friend who comes to gather his friends and take them to heaven, and also
speaks of the faith in that as illustrated in this portion of the text: “You may have all this world. Give me Jesus.” The
arrangement of the spiritual was done by Moses Hogan (1957-2003) who is an African-American composer who was
well-known as an arranger of choral music. He is particularly famous for his settings of spirituals and as a pianist and
conductor.

Hospital Visitation and Clergy on Call Schedule: Rev. Jeff Lehn will be on call during the week
of May 17. Deacons will assist with hospital visits on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
An Elder of the Month is available for a time of private conversation or prayer after each Worship

Hearing Assistance: Our Chapel and Sanctuary are equipped with the “Hearing Loop” system.

The Welcome Table in the Narthex is a place for us to greet visitors to our church. Elders staff
the table on Sunday mornings, but we encourage each of you to introduce yourself to visitors. Be a

NEXT SUNDAY
CELEBRATE PENTECOST! - On this day we celebrate the birthday of the church - 50 days after
Easter. Join us for our traditional Dixieland Service (please wear red) and the “birthday party for the
church” reception in McKay Hall beginning immediately following the Worship Service. There will be
a special Pentecost offering that benefits all Presbyterian Youth.
UPCOMING & ONGOING
Join the Summer Choir! Now is the perfect time to see what it’s like to be a member of the Chancel
Choir. The choir will be singing on June 7, June 14 and July 12. Rehearsals will be held in the Music Room
starting at 10:00am on those Sundays. Come and join us for any or all of the Sundays!
Spring Ahead 2015 (FPC exercise & nutrition program). We are halfway through this year’s
Spring Ahead! This year’s goal is to complete 1,000 hours of exercise in 30 days (as a congregation).

First Pres Spring Spruce-Up, Saturday, May 30. Spring IS here, and the
time is right to get outside. Would you please join the team to help spruce up
our church block on Saturday, May 30, from 10:00am - 2:00pm. We are going
to get our “church yard” in shape after a long winter. Bring your gloves, rake,
favorite pruning shears or clippers. We will take a break from raking, trimming
and spreading mulch to have a pizza lunch. Questions, contact Anne Barnett at [email protected],

Vacation Bible School at First Pres - Registration is open for VBS, June 15-19, 9:30am-12:30pm.
The cost is $15 per child, which includes a t-shirt and lunch each day. VBS is for children ages
3 - Grade 5. Register by June 1; forms are available outside the Church Office or on our Facebook
page. Volunteers are needed. Contact Jennifer Shaw at [email protected] or 426-7421 x127 if
you are able to volunteer or have any questions.
First Pres Youth Fundraiser, May 10, 17, 24 & 31 - The Youth will be selling tickets for Nelson's
BBQ Chicken to help cover costs incurred for paint and furniture to update the Youth Lounge. Buy
your meal tickets in the Lobby before or after church. Cost is $6.50 for 1/2 chicken. They will also
be offering Pit-tatoes at pick-up. The pick up date for meals is June 6 from 10:00am-1:00pm in front
of Hires Auto Parts on Illinois Rd. (Next to Meijer.) Thanks for your support!
The Parish Art Show continues through June 7. If you haven’t had a chance to view the works of
FPC members, please take a moment to view this wonderful exhibit in our Gallery, 9:00am-5:00pm,
M-F; 9:00am-1:00pm, Sundays.
Just Neighbors - Interfaith Homeless Network Meals June 7 - 13. Please consider helping our
church provide meals for our homeless neighbors. You may want to do an entire meal or just a
portion of the meal or even organize a group of friends or family to cook and serve a meal one night
during our week. We are asked to provide a main dish, sides, and a dessert. For more info see the
Mission Bulletin Board in the Small Dining Room or contact Susan Walley at 483-6801.
Graduating this Year? Please join us on June 7, when we will honor all graduates at the traditional
Worship Service.

2016 Presbyterian Heritage Tour to Scotland, July 12 - 21, 2016. Rev. Jeff Lehn, Rev. Bill
Hayworth of Smock Senior Ministries, and Rev. Jim Wallace will be hosting this amazing
Presbyterian Heritage tour that they hope to make an annual event. The dates are July 12-21, 2016
and we will see all the major highlights. The tour portion will be lead by Rev. Jim Wallace, Church of
Scotland minister, who is an expert tour guide and has recently “retired” to lead U.S. church trips to
Scotland full-time. Smock Senior Ministries will be partnering with us to make the cost more

Adult Ed presents Summer Book Study with Rev. Jeff Lehn, June 7 - 19.
Jeff will be hosting a summer book study on the last book Marcus Borg published
before he died: Convictions: How I Learned What Matters Most. This study will meet in the
Session Room at 10:00am over six Sundays to discuss as a group: June 7, 14, 21, 28
and July 12 and 19 (skipping July 5). Copies are available for purchase in the First Pres
Book and Gift Shop. Join us when you’re in town for this thoughtful and lively
conversation.
Adult Ed presents The Marriage Course, Fall of 2015.
It may seem early, but the Adult Ed committee is excited to
announce this unique opportunity. Over the course of 7 weeks
in the Fall, Sept. 10 - Oct. 22, they will be offering The Marriage
Course, lead by Aaron and Tara Lehmann. This course is for
anyone who is married.
This program is for any married couple whether you’ve been together for one or sixty-one years,
and whether you feel you have a strong relationship or are struggling. For more information see the
brochure near the office, contact Aaron or Tara or visit their website www.relationshipcentral.org/
marriage-course. This program will offer free childcare if you have children. The cost is $100 and
includes the workbook, 7 date nights with your spouse, dinner and babysitting. You can’t beat that!
We only have space for 15 couples for this first session, and will open registration to the public in
August (if we don’t have enough from First Pres). Payment due in the Fall, so don’t delay, contact

Faith First Campaign Update
The deadline for pledging toward the Faith First Campaign is quickly approaching. Our goal is to
have all pledges in by next Sunday, May 24. We hope you are considering a pledge and wanted to
remind you of a few details. This campaign will provide support in four key areas:
(1) Children, Youth and Families, (2) Mission work both locally and internationally, (3)
Maintenance of the church facility, and a (4) A Pastoral Intern Program. Our goal is to raise
3.5 million dollars and every little bit gets us closer. Your contribution can be made over 3 years in
any way that works for you. This is a great way to make a long-term impact here at First Pres. Please
pick up a pledge form outside the Church Office, Financial Office or email Lisa Yarian at
[email protected] to mail you one. Thank you to those who have already pledged!
