Strong and Alive at 25
The first twenty five Residents who moved into Fleet Landing and still
live in Independent Living will be featured throughout 2015.
Marian Bonds
Marian Bonds and her late husband Joe moved to Fleet
Landing from Virginia Beach on February 7th 1991.
They were a Navy family with Joe having spent over 30
years serving his country. Their first home here was
#119 and she fondly remembers the pot luck dinners
where everyone had a chance to get to know each other.
They were both part of the bowling league that played
at Mayport, and they went on many Resident Trips as they’d never had
much time in Florida before they moved.
She still exercises regularly and you can catch her walking the loop on
most days. Moving to Fleet Landing was one of the cleverest decisions
they ever made, she feels. Marian loves the large variety of food available
and especially appreciates the innovative salads. She’s very fond of
Chef’s Fried Chicken with a side of Southern Potato Salad, so be sure to
look for her special meal this month.
David Ward
Dave Ward and his late wife, Betty, moved from Falls
Church, VA to #3115, on February 21, 1991. The closeness of the Atlantic Ocean was the key factor in their
decision to move to Fleet Landing and they walked the
beach almost every day. Dave’s apartment is one of the
only ones left with the original layout. They both
participated in swimming and exercise classes and you’ll
find him in Sheri’s Mind and Body class three times a
week.
He fondly remembers leading the decoration committee getting and
hanging balloons for parties and how the library only had enough books
for a couple of cases. Dave has been the Building 3000 Representative
since the program’s inception. A favorite meal of Dave’s is Lobster with
Baked Potato, House Salad and Garbage Can Ice Cream, so be sure to
keep an eye out for it.
