Duanesburg Central School Adult Education Spring 2015 Class Offerings Our spring class offerings are listed below. Please note the dates, times, and course fees. Registration and payment are required in advance to insure there are enough participants to hold each class. Checks should be made payable to DCS Adult Education and can be mailed to DCS Adult Ed, Attn: Liz Fiorini, 133 School Drive, Delanson, NY 12053, or, feel free to drop off payment in the District Office M-F, 8am-4pm. This will help streamline our registration process and avoid administrative paperwork during class time. Please note that if school has been cancelled due to inclement weather, class will not be held on that day. School cancellations are noted on the District webpage and on local television channels. NYS SAFE BOATING CERTIFICATE Date: Wednesdays, March 4, 18, 25 and April 1 Time: 6:30 – 8:30 pm Fee: $15.00 Location: Elementary School Library Instructors Jack and Lynda Hochmuth will be presenting this 8 hour course, required for the operation of a boat, including personal watercraft, in New York State. A test will be administered the last week of the course and those passing the exam will receive certification. A minimum of 6 people is required for the class to be held. All 8 hours of the class must be taken. Registration for the class must be made by February 11, 2015. FINANCIAL PLANNING Understanding Stocks, Bonds & Mutual Funds. Date: Wednesday, March 18, 2015 Time: 6:30-8:00 pm. Fee: $5.00 Location: Elementary School Art Room Presented by Adam Rakoczy, licensed financial advisor with Halliday Financial Group in Albany, NY. This course will help you understand the differences between various types of investments so you can make the best choices for your individual circumstances and plan for your financial future. Pre-Retirement Planning for Baby-Boomers. Date: Thursday, March 26, 2015 Time: 6:30-8:00 pm. This discussion will help you understand the shift in investment strategy from accumulation to preservation and distribution. This course will teach you strategies for maximizing your benefit, tax planning, and supplementing your retirement income. Understand how a few key decisions can impact the amount of your Social Security benefit. ARTS & CRAFTS Craft Day Escape. Date: Saturday, April 18, 2015 Time: 8am-4pm Fee: Free Location: HS Cafeteria Sewing, Knitting, Beading… Maureen Rynish and Liz Fiorini will be on hand for the day to provide assistance with your unfinished projects. Share ideas and techniques with other participants; bring a bagged lunch and enjoy the company of fellow crafters! Please bring your sewing machine, projects, materials, and general knowledge of the craft you are working on. An extra extension cord is also helpful. HEALTH & WELLNESS Tai Chi for Health, Wellness and Arthritis. Date: Tuesdays, March 24 and 31, April 14 and 21 Time: 6:30-8:00 pm Fee: $65.00 per person/Sr. Rate $60.00 per person. We need a minimum of 8 participants to run this class. Location: ES Gym Earl O’Bryan, certified Tai Chi instructor, will present this 4 week course, consisting of warm ups, six basic forms, six advanced forms, and cool down. We practice the Sun style of Tai Chi, characterized by gentle agile steps, higher stance and smooth flowing workout using repetitive Movement Patterns. This program is for individuals of all ages and abilities, from limited function to advanced athletic ability. Tai Chi is a mind and body exercise. It is a joint safe exercise that improves memory and concentration, muscle strength, breathing, flexibility, balance and mobility with regular practice.
