This workshop explores how to consciously engage the support of gravity to allow a
buoyant rebound into space. This action, called yielding creates impeccable alignment
the optimum conditions for breathing to happen. In particular, we will look at how the
relationship from the feet to the pelvis in standing poses creates an intrinsic stability
which allows the spine become long and light. We will also explore how the act of
conscious yielding relates to the breath.
This workshop will include some lecture, guided movement enquiry, applied
experiential anatomy, yoga asana, slow vinyasa and breathwork. Suitable for
students from all streams of yoga with over one year practice.

HOW TO DEVELOP PERFECT POSTURE:
THE ART OF EASE
Picture a women gracefully balancing a large jar of water on her head. To carry such a
heavy weight she has to have a perfectly aligned spine and strong postural support
muscl es. Your back is designed to hold you up, keep you mobile, and allow you do all
the things you love doing. Yet, many people develop bad postural habits and back pain
as they age. So, how can you get back on track and stay there? The key to lasting
recovery is to address the root cause of your symptoms and learn how to use your brain
to change your body.
Somatic exercises unite modern neuromuscular science with ancient wisdom. In this
workshop, you will learn simple, easy exercises to engage your brain and release tight
muscles wherever and whenever you want. The result is a feeling of ease and tall,
graceful posture.
This workshop is suitable for all ages and movement levels. No previous experience
is required.

It took 4 million years of evolution for man to learn to walk upright. So why do so
many of us have problems in our feet, knees, hips, and lower backs ? To solve the
puzzle, it helps to understand that we organize movement though a process
called patterning.
Movement patterns integrate and co-ordinate neuromuscular action. As they
become entrained in our nervous system, we develop movement habits, which
like many other habits can be positive or negative. In Yogic philosophy we call
patterns or ways of organizing ourselves so we can move about in the world with
poise and ease.
