When her widowed father remarries, beautiful Cinderella is forced to live the life of a servant for her wicked Stepmother and jealous, mean-spirited Stepsisters. Cinderella is treated horribly and is made to do all the chores in the house. One day, an announcement comes from the Royal Kingdom that the Prince is throwing a ball to choose his bride from all the young ladies in the kingdom. The Stepsisters excitedly prepare, but poor Cinderella is forbidden to go to the ball by her Stepmother. The night of the ball, Cinderella is saddened that she will not be able to attend the grand event, but her thoughts are interrupted by a poor beggar at the door. Kind-hearted Cinderella forgets her own troubles and takes pity on the beggar, feeding her some bread. To Cinderella’s surprise, the beggar is really her Fairy Godmother, who then works her magic. Turning a pumpkin into a coach, mice into horses, and a rat into a coachman, she sends Cinderella off to the ball dressed in a beautiful gown and glass slippers. The Fairy Godmother tells Cinderella to enjoy the ball, but warns her that the magic spell will be broken at the stroke of midnight, and she will find herself dressed once again in her old, ragged clothes. As Cinderella arrives at the castle, all the eyes are drawn to her. She is more beautiful than anyone the townspeople have ever seen and everyone wonders who the stunning mystery girl could be. The Prince is enchanted, dancing endlessly with Cinderella until the clock begins to chime at midnight. Suddenly, Cinderella remembers the warning of her Fairy Godmother and quickly runs from the castle. In her haste, she leaves behind a single glass slipper. The Prince retrieves the slipper and vows to find her, even if he must try the slipper on every lady in the kingdom. With the help of the cobblers, he travels around the world in search of his true love. The Stepmother’s house is the last visited by the Prince. The mean Stepsisters try to force their feet into the tiny slipper, but it is Cinderella who fits into the slipper perfectly. The Prince leads Cinderella away from the Stepmother’s house to his kingdom, where they will both live happily ever after as King and Queen of all the land. about madison ballet 2014-15 Madison Ballet, celebrating its 33rd year, presents world-class ballet to the greater Madison area annually.
