IMPORTANT SAFETY WARNINGS: 1 - Read all instructions before use and ensure that anybody using this vaporizer has read all instructions. 2 - Your vaporizer can get hot enough to cause burns and start fires. Do not hold or touch your vaporizer on or near the window or bring it into contact with any flammable materials while in use or shortly after use. 3 – NEVER LEAVE YOUR VAPORIZER TURNED ON WHILE NOT IN USE. WHEN FINISHED USING, TURN OFF THE MAIN SWITCH AND MAKE SURE THE GREEN LIGHT IS OFF. 4 – NEVER TRANSPORT YOUR VAPORIZER IN A MANNER IN WHICH IT COULD BE ACCIDENTALLY TURNED ON. Charging Directions: Before using for the first time, you should charge the unit completely. For the best battery performance, please discharge the unit completely then recharge completely for the first two charge cycles. You will know the unit is completely discharged when the green and/or orange indicator light no longer turn on or the unit does not get hot enough to use. To charge: 1 - Plug the charger into a 120V wall outlet. The indicator light on the charger should turn green. 2 - Place the vaporizer on its side on a flat surface so that the indicator lights and switch are visible. 3 - Ensure that the vaporizer is turned off (the green indicator light on the vaporizer should be off and the switch should be toward the bottom of the unit) 4 - Plug the barrel plug of charger into the charger receptacle in the bottom of the vaporizer. The indicator light in the charger should turn red to indicate that the battery is not ready. 5 - When the charger indicator light turns green the vaporizer is ready for use (4 - 6 hours for a full charge) Setup Directions: 1 - With the mouthpiece still in place, look into the window on the side of the vaporizer and take note of the location of the bottom of the mouthpiece. This is the maximum fill height for the heating chamber. 2 - Remove the mouthpiece. Your mouthpiece should have come with a spring-like cap that covers the bottom end of the mouthpiece tube and a small screen that can be formed into a ball and inserted into the end of the tube. Either one or both of these can be used to prevent material from being drawn into your mouth during use. The spring allows more airflow but may allow small bits of material through if ground too finely or if you drawn fast. This is a good choice if you are not grinding, are using a course grind, or are using a water filter attachment. The screen is a good idea for finer grinds. 3 – Place the mouthpiece 4 - Load botanicals (ground or not) into heating chamber. Use as much or as little as you want as long as you do not over pack the heating chamber. The heating chamber is over packed if the mouthpiece does not easily seat all the way into place. 5 - Put the mouthpiece back into place, ensuring the magnet fully engages and the mouthpiece is flush with the top of the vaporizer. 6 - For your first use you should ensure that you have 10 to 15 minutes available to devote your full attention to the vaporization process. This is a manual vaporizer, which means you will want to sense the smell, heat, vapor visibility, and final color of the spent herbs in order to get a feel for the vaporizer. It is a little more work to learn but becomes second nature quickly. You will also want to have a nice quiet place where you can really savor the taste and smell of your vapor. Vaporization Directions: 1 - Turn on the vaporizer by moving the main switch to the up position. The green indicator light should turn on. 2 - Locate the trigger just below the main switch. The trigger is formed by the flexible piece of wood that covers the main switch/indicator lights and a small gap behind it. Simply press on the wood just below the main switch and you will hear a click and the orange indicator light will turn on. 3 - Hold the trigger for about 20 seconds, then start drawing slowly. 4 - Keep holding the trigger while maintaining a slow steady draw. A typical draw should last about 20 to 30 seconds. The first draw may not produce visible vapor but you should get a strong familiar taste. 5 - Continue keeping the trigger pressed between and during draws until you are getting steady vapor. 6 - After a few draws you should be getting visible vapor and a strong taste. At this point you should hold the trigger only while taking draws (i.e. not between draws). 7 - Now you will want to start getting a feel for whether you want the vaporizer to get warmer or cooler. If you don’t feel like you are getting enough vapor and the vapor seems cool, then you will want to make the vaporizer hotter. If the vapor starts to taste burnt or the vapor gets too hot, then you will want to cool the vaporizer down a little. To maker the vaporizer hotter: – hold the trigger for a few seconds before drawing – make sure to draw very slowly, Drawing fast will only cool down the unit more. To make the vaporizer cooler: – Wait longer between draws (without holding the trigger) – Take part of your draw without holding the trigger. Sometimes when the vaporizer is very hot you can take an entire draw without the trigger. – Draw more quickly 7 - After about 5 to 15 minutes, depending on the quality, type, and quantity of botanicals, the vapor taste and visibility should start to tail off. You may want to get the vaporizer hot at this point by holding the trigger a little extra just to make sure you have fully spent your botanicals, or with experience you will probably get a feel for where you like to stop. 8 - Remember to inspect your spent botanicals after vaporization, especially while you are still learning how to use the vaporizer. The best determination of how thoroughly you used your botanicals can be made by visual inspection. If spent botanicals have gray or black soot-like particles then you have probably vaporized too hot. However, you may want to aim for a tiny amount of dark brown or black at the edges. If you have any hint of green remaining then you have probably under vaporized your botanicals. Ideally your botanicals will be a nice even brown to dark brown color. Things to remember when vaporizing: - The window can get very hot. Do not touch the window while in use. - It is a good idea to shake the vaporizer a few times during use to mix up the botanicals and ensure even heating. - You should draw much more slowly than you may be used to when smoking. Drawing too quickly will remove too much heat from the heat chamber causing inadequate vaporization and excessive heating of the mouthpiece. It is hard to draw too slowly. Think of it like you are sipping the vapor. - Occasionally it may seem like the vaporizer is clogging or getting harder to draw. As long as you can still draw, even if very slowly, you should be fine. In fact some of the best vapor production comes during these slow draw phases. This phenomenon is due to the migration of the botanicals and oils toward the mouthpiece and is a sign that a lot of vapor is on the way. If the resistance is so high that you can’t draw any vapor then you should release the trigger, gently tap the vaporizer downward into the heel of your hand a few times and try again. If it is still too hard to draw then the mouthpiece may need to be cleaned (see maintenance directions below) - Raise the heat by holding the trigger for a few seconds before drawing and draw slowly. - Lower the heat by letting the vaporizer sit idle, by drawing more quickly, or by drawing without holding the trigger. - Stop when the vapor starts to taste slightly burnt or toasted. - Inspect your spent botanicals so that you will know if you vaped too hot or too cold. - DO NOT attempt to remove or poke the screen located at the bottom of the heating chamber or any of the heating chamber components. - DO NOT attempt to open the vaporizer or replace the batteries. The only part that should be removed from the vaporizer is the magnetic mouthpiece. Maintenance Directions: After each use turn the vaporizer upside down and tap the spent botanicals out into a tray or hand for inspection. If needed you may also use a pencil or other suitable poker to gently free any lodged botanicals, but this is usually not necessary. You may also wish to occasionally clean the heating chamber with a cotton swab and a small amount of isopropyl alcohol as well, although this is rarely necessary due to the high heat in the heating chamber. The most important part to clean periodically is the mouthpiece. The inside of the mouthpiece and the brass screen will get coated and/or clogged with condensed vapors if not cleaned often. The glass part of the mouthpiece can either be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol or scraped. The brass screen can either be cleaned by flattening it out then cleaning with isopropyl alcohol or burning with a lighter. It should then be rolled back into a ball so that it fits snugly into the end of the mouthpiece. Alternatively the mouthpiece screen can be replaced with a standard brass pipe screen - NOTE - never remove the heat chamber screen, only the mouthpiece screen can be replaced. You vaporizer has either come with a single coat of butcher block oil, a coat of our mineral oil/beeswax finish, or unfinished. In either case the finish can be periodically restored by applying a very light finish sanding (300 grit or higher) followed by a natural, foodsafe oil finish or an application of our mineral oil/beeswax finish (available from our online store soon).
