We will discuss the different dot geometries, how to adjust prepress to take advantage of the different dot shapes and how to adjust your dot gain curves to match a specified target. Tips and tools will be shared surrounding platemaking optimization, determining proper bump and curve data for the different workflows and process control requirements to assure repeatability and consistency when making flexo plates. Supplier Presentation 2: Fact Automation is the Future of Plate Making Speaker: Rory Marsoun, Esko Over the past decade, we’ve seen flexo take great leaps and bounds in many ways, but when we look at the fundamental steps we take to make a plate, not much has changed. As we see increasingly shorter runs, the need for higher quality and consistency, and the cost of labor rising, automating this process becomes required for the success of our industry. In this presentation, we will discuss technologies that are currently available and technologies that are just on the horizon that will enable this next important step. This new plate technology allows any digital plate producer to manufacture printing plates that yield excellent corrugated flute reduction and exceptional printing results on press, without the need for additional steps or processes such as lamination, inert gas or high intensity UV exposure. Supplier Presentation 4: Digital Printing Speaker: Lee Zerfass, Anderson & Vreeland This year’s FPPA presentation introduces 3 different classes of technology designed to bring insight, efficiencies and profitability back to the corrugated industry. We will be discussing new CTP technologies with a lower cost of entry. Digital Front Ends are making noise in the industry allowing us to connect legacy workflow solutions along with direct access to MIS/ERP systems. Lastly, how digital print and finishing technologies can expand FPPA members reach to vertical markets for new business opportunities. They have perfected the ability to consistently hit the target, the problem it is the wrong target in today's new economy. The way customers buy, select suppliers, build relationships, and view sales people has dramatically changed with the internet. Yet most have sales organizations continue to sell as if they were in a quaint Norman Rockwell painting. Learn about alternative sales strategies for your sales team that helps minimize commoditization, reduce long selling cycles, and decrease rampant sales force inefficiencies. 9:30 – 10:45 Straight Talk – Trending Succession Planning Concerns Speakers: Lee & Terry Resnick, Resnick Associates In understandable language, business owners will learn needed tools and strategies in the areas of business succession and wealth preservation and eventual transition of assets (with special focus on their business). Typically the more successful business owners become, they also become more vulnerable. Accordingly, techniques will be discussed showing how to combat those vulnerabilities and assure that the successful business remains just that – successful! Among the areas of focus will be why successful businesses ultimately fail, the importance of coordinating estate plans with succession plans, addressing active vs. inactive children within a family business (does it make sense to leave the business to all the children?), liquidity issues, valuation methodologies that will satisfy the IRS while lowering the tax bill, the proper type of buy-sell agreements that allow for maximum tax savings and most cost efficiency and insurance funding mistakes that often result in millions of dollars in taxes paid that could have been legally avoided and solutions to avoid this scenario. The seminar wraps up by tying in many of the areas of the seminar discussion into a real life compelling family business case study that is sure to strike a chord with everyone in the audience! 10:45-11:00 Break FPPA 18th Annual Convention “How to be Creative, Faster, AND Profitable!” Wednesday, April 29 (continued) 11:00 – 11:45 11:45 – 12:30 Naples Grande Beach Resort Alternative Financing Speaker: Spence Hamrick, Wells Fargo Spence Hamrick’s team supports Wells Fargo’s Commercial Banking group by providing loans and leases secured by equipment to their customers.
