Already an accomplished documentary director in his native Germany Axel Ebermann
moved to New York at the age of 26 to pursue his dream of a career in fiction film.
He graduated ‘summa cum laude’ with a B.A. in ‘Writing and Directing for Fiction Film’
from the City University of New York (CUNY), where in his senior year he not only won
‘Best Directing’ for his short ‘Wired’, but also took home the trophy for best editing for the
documentary ’10-a Good Buddy’.
After graduating Axel focused on his career as a cinematographer. He has been
involved in numerous fiction films, advertising productions and documentaries.
His credits include productions for Discovery Channel, Fuse, FX Networks, CNBC, A &
E, CNN, ESPN and Showtime as well as for the German stations ARD, ZDF, ProSieben,
kabeleins, Deutsche Welle, Bayerischer Rundfunk, NTV, N24, 3sat, the Swiss station
SF1 and the German-French channel arte.
Notable advertising clients are Lufthansa, Mastercard, McDonalds, Nikon and Samsung.
Axel worked as a camera operator on the Academy Award OSCAR nominated
documentary “How to Survive a Plague”.
His documentary ‘Shooting Star’ won the award for ‘Best Documentary’ at the ‘San
Diego Black Film Festival’ .
