February 2015
BENEVOLENT and PROTECTIVE ORDER of ELKS
FRAMINGHAM LODGE NO. 1264
ER MESSAGE
Greetings to all!
February is here. The last week in January has definitely been a challenge with the extreme snowfall and cold.
Hope everyone weathered the storm ok.
February also brings Elections of Lodge Officers. The Lodge has some Vacant Chairs for the 2015-2016
year. Anyone wishing to get involved with a committee or fill the role of an Officer should contact the Lodge
Secretary or attend a lodge meeting on the 1st or 3rd Wednesday of any month.
The Home Committee has proposed to change the Lodges hours of operation from opening at 9am to
11am, brought the proposal across the Lodge floor for approval on January 7, 2015, which did pass. A Home
Committee meeting will be scheduled on 2/4/15 at 6:15pm for anyone with questions.
Thank you to John Villa for all his hard work on the ECD Bola Fundraiser, which was held 1/24/15 at our
Lodge. Bennie and George cooked up a fabulous meal and huge thank you to them for their volunteerism.
Don’t forget the upcoming Meat Shoot on Valentine’s Day, 2/14/15 @ 7pm.
Stay safe and warm
Sincerely,
Donna

SECRETARY’S CORNER
The months ahead are very busy for the Lodge and its Officers. February we will be nominating and electing
Officers who will be taking the helm and guiding our ship in the ensuing year. These Officers will also need
the help of all our Members to make the next year successful. If you are looking for a way to help contact the
present Officers or soon to be Officers elect and join a committee or support a program.
We will also be visiting other Lodges to participate in the Installation of Officers throughout the District. (This
list will be available shortly as these Installations are open to all.
Initiation of new Members is coming up at the end of February on PER Night. There is a Meat Shoot fund
raiser for the Lodge on Valentine’s Day, and then there is the opportunity to renew your Membership by paying
your dues for the 2015-16 year.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Fraternally,
Robert B. Anspach, PER, PDD, HLM
Secretary
SICKNESS AND DISTRESS: Kevin Horton
Our State Sponsor Dr. Leonard Bristol, PGER is recovering from a hip replacement. Our prayers
go for a quick recover.
We mourn the loss of a great Elk: Robert Shell of the Watertown Elks. The Honorable Robert
Shell joined the Navy in 1952 and served two tours in the Medical Corps. He was an Exalted
Ruler of Watertown, a District Deputy and our State President. He also held a Grand Lodge
position on Public Relations. Many of us knew Robert and we will keep him and his family in
our prayers.
PER NIGHT
BY-LAW CHANGES
Our next class for Initiation is
scheduled for Friday February
27th. The Candidates will undergo
Orientation on Thursday February 19th.
There is still time to submit applications
for this class. PERs are scheduled to perform the ceremony.
It is a special night for our Lodge. For more information
contact the Secretary.
At our recent Lodge meeting the following
proposals were made:
MEMBERSHIP INCREASES
The following applications will be voted upon at our first
meeting on February 4th:
Paul Devi to proposed by Cesar Monzon, PER
Dan Fritz proposed by Jason Heggs
Maureen Missaggia proposed by Benedetto Ottaviani
To change the hours of operation from
9:00am to 11:00am.
And
To raise our dues by .50 cents in order
maintain our current $68.00 assessment.
(The per capita assessment from Grand
Lodge was reduced by .50 cents and our
By-Laws read that our dues will be $50.00
plus Grand Lodge and State Association
per capita.
The recommendation is to raise the dues
to $50.50 plus the Grand Lodge and State
Association per capita, thus making the
yearly assessment $68.00.
These items will be voted upon at our
February 4th meeting.

EMBLEM NEWS
How many of you can believe that January has come and gone. With lots of New Year resolution gone
with the cold winds we are having.
We had a great time at cootie tea party. Newton knows how to run a fun filled day. The money raised
from this event went to the MSAEC KT/DA FUND.
Just a head up the third State Meeting will be held on March 15th, 2015 at Wrentham Lodge of Elks 12
– 4pm.
HOW YOU CAN PREVENT SPREADING THE FLU
You may have noticed that many loved ones, friends, and perhaps yourself, have been getting sick lately.
This year’s flu season is especially bad. The CDC releases weekly reports on national flu activity, and
the most current release, shows that 29 states were experiencing high flu activity. Part of the reason for
this is because the main strain of the flu virus mutated, and the flu shot doesn’t protect fully against this
mutation. Because of this, it’s very important to prevent the spread of the flu as much as possible.
*
Stay home if you’re sick. Flu can spread to others from as far as 6 feet
- So even if you’re careful to stay away from co-workers or other Friends you can easily spred
the virus.
* Wash hands with soap and water frequently.* Thoroughly clean eating utensils and bedding linens.
*
Frequently touched surfaces should be disinfected, especially if someone who has used them has been sick.
Sickness and Distress: Helen Gibbons is at Carlyle House. Carlene Bennett, Rose Catenacci, June
Roberson and Terry McDevitt are under doctor’s care. Please let us know if you are in ill health. We do
care and another prayer can help in recovery.
Remember there is no meeting in February. We will meet in March. So be careful with the snow and ice
spots. Keep nice and warm during all the cold weather we are having.
Don’t forget to wish those you love a happy valentine.
Hope you read your TOPIC’S we were in it three times-WOW- Thanks Carlene.
Please keep your hours that you volunteer for Jamie Romano for
Community Service.
These hours are reported to the Emblem State and Supreme to show how
important Emblem Clubs are to all community. The total reported is
unbelievable.

ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION
I would like to begin by congratulating Robert Armitage on his recent donation and
reaching Participating Member 2 Status for donating over $200.00. I would also like
to thank Charles Villa and Pete Pandolfino for their recent donation and the Emblem
Club for their recent donations bring them up to $2750.00. To all the members that have
donated to the Elks National Foundation this year. It is through your donations that we
will continue to prosper and grow to be able to give back to our Society.
We are three quarters into the year and we are currently at $4.46 per member. We will achieved the GER’s goal
of $4.60 per member and will meet or exceed the Lodge’s goal of $6.00 per member. We recently help the ECD ENF Fundraiser and raised over $3000.00 in the District. A full report will be
submitted next month. Thanks for your support.
To the new members over the last several years, the Lodge donated your first $10.00 when you became an Elk
member to get you started in the Elks National Foundation. This initial payment starts you off to complete a
total payment of $100.00 over a period of 10 years. The ENF sends you a statement once a year requesting a
$10.00 payment, I know that we get overwhelmed with ELKS mail and this request may have been discarded
inadvertently. I am reaching out to the new members over the past few years that have not sent in their $10.00
toward their Participating Member status to send a $10.00 donation or whatever you can afford to the lodge to
my attention and I will send it directly to the ENF in your name.
THIS IS LESS THAN 3 CENTS A DAY. SEND IN A CHECK FOR $10.00
AND I WILL SEND IT TO THE ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION IN
YOUR NAME.
Thank you all for your continued support and helping us provide our students with
scholarships well over 3 million last year. Last Year our Lodge gave out over $18,000
to students through the State Scholarship Grants. The Elks National Foundation also supports the Veterans
and many other programs including the Hoop Shoot, Soccer Shoot and Drug Awareness.
If anyone needs to get in touch with me at any time call (508) 397-9065
Thank you again for your continued support to the Great Heart of Elkdom.
