EMBLEM NEWS How many of you can believe that January has come and gone. With lots of New Year resolution gone with the cold winds we are having. We had a great time at cootie tea party. Newton knows how to run a fun filled day. The money raised from this event went to the MSAEC KT/DA FUND. Just a head up the third State Meeting will be held on March 15th, 2015 at Wrentham Lodge of Elks 12 – 4pm. HOW YOU CAN PREVENT SPREADING THE FLU You may have noticed that many loved ones, friends, and perhaps yourself, have been getting sick lately. This year’s flu season is especially bad. The CDC releases weekly reports on national flu activity, and the most current release, shows that 29 states were experiencing high flu activity. Part of the reason for this is because the main strain of the flu virus mutated, and the flu shot doesn’t protect fully against this mutation. Because of this, it’s very important to prevent the spread of the flu as much as possible. * Stay home if you’re sick. Flu can spread to others from as far as 6 feet - So even if you’re careful to stay away from co-workers or other Friends you can easily spred the virus. * Wash hands with soap and water frequently.* Thoroughly clean eating utensils and bedding linens. * Frequently touched surfaces should be disinfected, especially if someone who has used them has been sick. Sickness and Distress: Helen Gibbons is at Carlyle House. Carlene Bennett, Rose Catenacci, June Roberson and Terry McDevitt are under doctor’s care. Please let us know if you are in ill health. We do care and another prayer can help in recovery. Remember there is no meeting in February. We will meet in March. So be careful with the snow and ice spots. Keep nice and warm during all the cold weather we are having. Don’t forget to wish those you love a happy valentine. Hope you read your TOPIC’S we were in it three times-WOW- Thanks Carlene. Please keep your hours that you volunteer for Jamie Romano for Community Service. These hours are reported to the Emblem State and Supreme to show how important Emblem Clubs are to all community. The total reported is unbelievable. Phyllis A. May President 508-879-6053 ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION I would like to begin by congratulating Robert Armitage on his recent donation and reaching Participating Member 2 Status for donating over $200.00. I would also like to thank Charles Villa and Pete Pandolfino for their recent donation and the Emblem Club for their recent donations bring them up to $2750.00. To all the members that have donated to the Elks National Foundation this year. It is through your donations that we will continue to prosper and grow to be able to give back to our Society. We are three quarters into the year and we are currently at $4.46 per member. We will achieved the GER’s goal of $4.60 per member and will meet or exceed the Lodge’s goal of $6.00 per member. We recently help the ECD ENF Fundraiser and raised over $3000.00 in the District. A full report will be submitted next month. Thanks for your support. To the new members over the last several years, the Lodge donated your first $10.00 when you became an Elk member to get you started in the Elks National Foundation. This initial payment starts you off to complete a total payment of $100.00 over a period of 10 years. The ENF sends you a statement once a year requesting a $10.00 payment, I know that we get overwhelmed with ELKS mail and this request may have been discarded inadvertently. I am reaching out to the new members over the past few years that have not sent in their $10.00 toward their Participating Member status to send a $10.00 donation or whatever you can afford to the lodge to my attention and I will send it directly to the ENF in your name. THIS IS LESS THAN 3 CENTS A DAY. SEND IN A CHECK FOR $10.00 AND I WILL SEND IT TO THE ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION IN YOUR NAME. Thank you all for your continued support and helping us provide our students with scholarships well over 3 million last year. Last Year our Lodge gave out over $18,000 to students through the State Scholarship Grants. The Elks National Foundation also supports the Veterans and many other programs including the Hoop Shoot, Soccer Shoot and Drug Awareness.
