RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE
COLLECTION
(Q) Who can answer questions
dealing with garbage and recycling pick-up from my house?
(A) Your waste hauler is likely either
Rumpke at (513) 851-0122, or CSI
at (513) 771-4200.
RECYCLING
(Q) Since curbside recycling is not
available to me, where can I find
the nearest recycling center?
(A) Aluminum, steel, copper and tin
metal cans, plastic bottles and
jars, brown, green and clear glass,
mixed paper and cardboard can
be recycled at area drop-offs usually available to you 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week, at the locations listed on pages 1 & 2.
(Q) Since my yogurt or butter containers have the #5 recycling
symbol on the bottom, can they
be recycled?
(A) Unfortunately these containers
cannot yet be economically recycled by the local recycling facility. These containers can be
mailed to Preserve Gimme 5 to be
recycled. To save on postage, #5
containers can also be dropped off
at any Whole Foods Store.
(Q) Can Styrofoam be recycled?
(A) Because there aren’t any styrofoam recyclers in the area, Styrofoam recycling is limited in southwest Ohio. However consumers
can find ways to reuse styrofoam
or donate used packing peanuts to
a shipping store. The Alliance of
Foam Packaging Recycling has a
mail-in program found at the following website http://
www.epspackaging.org/info.html
USED FURNITURE
Oftentimes, used furniture can be donated to your local charity. However,
some furniture is not suitable to be reused. Most waste haulers offer large
item pick-up services to their customers if the resident calls ahead to
schedule the pick-up.

Electronics & T.V.’s / Appliances / Yard Waste, Composting / Reporting Litter,
Some cities/villages will allow you to place grass
clippings, branches, and leaves along the curb
for later pick-up. Milford residents can leave
brush on the curb to be picked up Wednesdays
from April-October. Amelia residents can leave
bundles of branches less than 30 lbs and less
than 4” in diameter at the curb for pick-up except
during winter months. Batavia residents can
leave bundles at the curb for pick-up the first
week of every month except winter months. Williamsburg operates a compost facility, call 7246107 for more details. You can also take your
yard waste to Evans Landscaping (271-1119) or
Bzak Landscaping (831-0907) for a fee
(residents of Miami and Union Twp free at Bzak).
Composting is always an environmentally friendly
option, or you can call your waste hauler to collect your yard waste. For more information, visit
the Office of Environmental Quality’s web site,
www.oeq.net, or call the at (513) 732-7894.
Categories of material that may be considered
“household hazardous waste” include automotive
products, solvents, pool chemicals, and hobby and
craft materials. Disposal and recycling outlets for
certain household hazardous waste materials are
listed below. Guidelines for the disposal of paint are
provided on Page 3 of this guide, the county may
offer vouchers to cover the cost of disposal or recycling for certain items. County residents are encouraged to contact the Office of Environmental Quality at
(513) 732-7894 to enquire about the voucher program. If the material in question is included in the
voucher program, a voucher will be sent to the resident, who is then responsible for taking the voucher
and the material to the facility identified on the
voucher. Commercial or industrial firms interested in
the disposal of hazardous wastes may contract directly with hazardous waste disposal firms. Two such
firms are identified below:
