Summer Camps at Avera Therapy Looking for some stimulating ways to help your child fill their days and develop some new skills? Below are some great summer “camps” to help enrich their play skills, language, motor skills, sensory development and health/wellness. Come join the fun! Friends at Play offers an opportunity for your child to participate in a structured play time to help promote the development of social skills in a language rich environment. This playgroup will be led by a licensed SLP, OT and PT and will provide opportunities for gross and fine motor play, facilitated social skills and language development. All children are welcome to join the fun! Little Critters Ages: Group for 3-4 year olds and a group for 5-6 year olds Dates and Times: 1.5 hours on Mondays, June 8,15,22,29 3-4 year olds 9:00 – 10.30 / 5-6 y/o’s 3:00 – 4.30 Cost: $100 for 4 sessions Just Write: Handwriting Clinic Join us for an interactive approach to handwriting! Handwriting continues to be an important part of your child’s development and daily educational activities and can influence their daily school performance. This clinic will utilize the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum which offers a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate, multi-sensory approach to learning to write. The clinic will be led by an occupational therapist with experience in utilizing this program and addressing underlying challenges in handwriting Ages: Kindergarten to 2nd grade. Dates and Times: 2 times per week for 45 mins for 3 weeks plus an initial screening prior to starting. Tuesday and Wednesday July 21, 22, 28, 29 August 4,5 4:30 to 5:15 PM Cost: $100 plus $35 for initial individual screening and writing workbook. Tired of every meal time being a battle? Looking for ways to encourage your picky eater to try something new? This camp works on providing a positive environment for food exploration and education for children and their families on making mealtimes an enjoyable experience again. The group will address oral motor, sensory, social and play aspects of feeding in a small group setting led by a speech language pathologist and OT. Children will play and create with, sing about, and read about food to work towards greater acceptance and Munch & Crunch: Making Mealtimes Fun! willingness to try things that are a little different. Ages: 2-7 (will group according to ages) Dates & Times: 2 times per week for 3 weeks, for 1 hour. Wednesdays, July 8,15,22 and Fridays 10, 17, and 24. TBD dependent on age of groups. Cost: $150 Movers & Shakers This group will be moving and shaking while working on all areas of gross motor development. The children will have the opportunity to participate in interactive and diverse activities that promote balance, coordination, ball skills, jumping, and running. The group will be led by a physical therapist who will help lead the children through developmentally appropriate activities that facilitates a wide range of skills. Ages: 6-9 Dates & Times: 1 hour on Wednesdays, June 3, 10, 17, 24 Cost: $100 3:30 to 4:30 A group designed to help children learn to self regulate their attention, activity level, and behavioral responses. To help them become more aware of their level of alertness allowing them to learn to monitor, modify, and change it to better be ready to meet the needs of different tasks and situations. It will include concepts from “How Does My Engine Run” program and handouts/activities from SENSEational Brainworks and be led by an occupational therapist. There will be Fun interactive activities during the session to assist in identifying and changing their level of alertness as well as take home activities to help them work on it in all environments. Ages: 7-10 Dates and times: 6 different 1 hour sessions. Tuesdays, June 2, 9 and Wednesday’s June 3,10 and re-group sessions Tuesday’s June 30 and July 14 from 8:30 to 9:30 AM Cost: $150 ! All groups have limited availability. Each group must have a minimum number of participants to be held. If that minimum is not met you will be contacted one week prior to the start of the group.
