Calendar of Cultural Events
A publication of the Fremont Cultural Arts Council
Volume XXXV Issue 2
April-August, 2015
President’s Message:
Resources in the community….
Having lived in many different places before eventually settling in Fremont, I am frequently delighted to find
how fortunate this community is in the kind of resources and people that make it such a richly enjoyable
place. I was reminded of this again last week when:
-
-
Ohlone College held a community outreach conference at their Newark campus, inviting representatives
from the high tech industry, educators, civic, religious and government leaders and others to hear what
Ohlone has in the works, and to ask our concerns in return. Dr. Geri Browning led a meeting that was
focused, informative and had a clear purpose….and with refreshments!
Susan Longini, in charge of the City of Fremont’s program to have the utility boxes at traffic signals
painted by the artists of Alameda County, has announced a second round of calls to artists, with more
delightful art-covered utility boxes coming, converted from graffiti-covered eyesores.
A request for donations of art for the Niles Rotary annual fund-raising auction was met with
overwhelming generosity from many of the most outstanding local artists.
I could go on with examples of why we are fortunate to live in a place where creative, knowledgeable
people care about their community, commit time and energy to schools, senior centers, and attending
council meetings until all hours…I’m sure you all can name examples from your own experience.

April – August 2015
FREMONT FOCUS is a publication of the Fremont Cultural Arts Council. Deadline for the Autumn 2015
issue is August 1, 2015. Please send your news to P.O. Box 1314, Fremont, CA 94538, or by e-mail to
[email protected], or call 510.794.7166. We strongly encourage our participating organizations to get
their calendar information to us in time for publication, but sometimes it is just not possible. We realize how
important arts news can be, but if is too late for the printed version of the Fremont Focus, we have a web
page listing “Late Submissions”. Visit http://www.fremontculturalartscouncil.org/, click on the Fremont
Focus button on the left navigation bar, and submit your activity under “Late Submissions”.
FREMONT COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES CENTER is open each weekday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
(except holidays). Volunteers will answer your questions, dispense brochures and flyers, show you the
premises, and generally put you in touch with what’s happening in Fremont. Drop in to visit -- 3375 Country
Drive (near Tak Fudenna Stadium). We are always looking for friends to staff the office and to help with
mailings. Please call 510-794-7166 if you can help.
One of the purposes of Fremont Cultural Arts Council is to provide a ‘clearinghouse’ for Community Arts
activities. The Fremont Focus is one of the ways for organizations to note what is planned, and when. In
addition, F.C.A.C. would like to keep an up-to-date calendar ready for information queries. Help us make
this work by informing us (794-7166) of your club’s upcoming fund-raisers, meetings, workshops, concerts,
etc. And if you are on the planning committee for your group, please check with us for any conflict in dates.
We feel this will help everyone plan successful projects.
