the McMurry Chanters visiting
for a concert on March 26 at
7:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary.
The Music Department at
McMurry University (a United
Methodist institution) is a
dynamic and active
department. McMurry’s music
ensembles present a broad cross
-section of performing options
for musicians. The Chanters,
McMurry’s premiere choir,
performs regular concerts on
campus and in the Abilene
community, and tours annually
throughout the state, across the
nation and abroad. We are
blessed to be a part of their
Spring 2015 Tour.

homes for one night, March

The Kids Beach Club, that we of
Euless First United Methodist
Church sponsor at South Euless
Elementary School, celebrated its
Great Treasure Day on Tuesday,
March 3. It was a fun and
exciting day for all involved!
God's Word is the greatest
treasure on earth and the
centerpiece of all that happens at
Kids Beach Club. On this special
day, each of the 56 children
present was given a Bible of their
very own to read, study, share and
help them grow in their
relationship with God.
God is doing a mighty work
here through this ministry.

Come join us for Eggvangelism!
We’re going to be assembling
bags with information about our
church, an invitation to our
Easter services, some
information about Easter and a
few treats. It’s March 28 at
10:30am in the Family Life
Center. Once we’re done we’ll
be taking the bags out to the
surrounding neighborhoods and
apartments. Last year was
wonderful! I’m positive it will
be just as great, if not better,
this year! Remember that
before you come to
Eggvangelism, there will be a
rehearsal for the children
involved in the
Palm Sunday portion of the
Easter Cantata at 10am in the
sanctuary. Carla Fink will be
leading the children in their
practice and performance on
Sunday. If you have not received
a copy of the music or CD, and
would like your child to
participate please send an email
to [email protected] to
let me know! Also, please
remember to send your child
with an Easter basket or bag for
the Egg Hunt following the
Palm Sunday Luncheon after
the 11 o’clock service. If you are
able, please bring a dozen
filled plastic eggs to contribute
to the hunt, it would be greatly
appreciated. On Easter Sunday
(April 5) there will be no
Children’s Sunday School.
Instead, head over to the Family
Life Center and join us for a
brunch potluck!
April 25 is our next movie day in
the Swor Parlor. Be sure to
mark your calendars with these

Vacation Bible School is right
around the corner!! I am still in
need of a few teachers and lots of
shepherds to lead the classes! If

Mission (CTCYM) and other
service projects, is to host a
Rummage Sale, and we want your
stuff! If you have items that you
would like to donate for our
cause, please begin setting them
aside. We will be able to receive
your donated items Wednesday,
March 25th through Friday, March
27th anytime between 12:00 p.m.
and 9:00 p.m.
The Rummage Sale will take place
8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday,
March 28th. If you don’t have
rummage to donate, rest assured that
you can help us out in other ways in
the coming months. If you can’t

We will be hosting one of our
fabulous carwashes sometime after

F ROM THE P ASTOR
I enjoy listening to your
stories. I appreciate the
experiences you share with me,
and the lessons you have
learned. Chances are, if you have
learned something from a season
of life, sharing that story can
help someone else learn, too.
I have learned. One of the things
I have learned from almost
everyone of you who work our
Food Pantry is that you cannot
judge a person by the car they
drive.
But then you realize you don't
know their story and that,
perhaps, you'd rather give
someone a bag of food than ask
them to sell their car for a meal.
We don't know their whole
story. For that matter you don't
know my whole story, and I don't
know your whole story.
But we do know that our stories
intersect and overlap. Our
stories are travelling together
here and now.
Right now, during Lent, our
stories are travelling together
away from excess. We know that
while the world around us calls us
toward more and more, Jesus
calls us the other direction.
Exactly what the path to Jesus and
away from excess looks like is
different for each of us. Our paths
are similar, yet not exactly the
same.
I hope this Lenten Series - our
mutiny against excess - is stirring
up good conversations among you
about how you follow Jesus in the
face of the temptation to excess.
S PRING E DUCATIONAL O PPORTUNITIES
The mission of Euless First United
Methodist Church is to strive to
follow Jesus Christ a bit better
today than yesterday. We seek to
follow Jesus better by moving
people from knowing God; to
growing in relationship with God,
to going forth with God to serve
others; and finally, glowing for
God by witnessing to their faith to
others. We accomplish this
through our Discipleship Plan or
Discipleship Journey - an
intentional process by which we
guide persons via Individual
Studies, Small Group Studies, and
Retreat Events. Here are two
upcoming Discipleship Journey
Events.
First, God’s Grand Plot is a one
day retreat event. It provides a
view of the entire Bible as one
story of God’s hand on the human
journey. The day includes a
historical overview of the Bible, the
Bible’s organization, and how
God’s story affects the human
heart. God’s Grand Plot will be
Saturday, April 11, 9:00 a.m.- 4:00
p.m. in the Swor Parlor. There is
no cost and materials will be
provided. Registration is requested
to ensure enough materials. Please

Second, Serving From the Heart
is scheduled for April 18 from 10 to
12, and April 25 and May 2 from 9
to 3 in the Swor Parlor. Serving
From the Heart helps to meet the
challenges ahead by discovering
your gifts and talents now. God’s
plan for the church calls for each
member of the Body of Christ to
play a vital role. Sometimes we
think that serving God is an
obligation, a duty, and that it isn’t
meant to be enjoyable. The truth
is, though, that God wants us to
find joy and fulfillment when we
serve. That happens when we serve
in a role that matches who God
created us to be.
Serving From the Heart is a
journey of self-discovery as one
learns more about how the Body of
Christ is intended to function, and
what that means to each person.

Raising Cheerful Givers
Part 5 of 7 –
CONTENTMENT AND
DELAYED GRATIFICATION
This is fifth in a series of articles
on “Raising Cheerful Givers”.
Helping our children understand
financial principles will not only
help them manage their money,
but also become joyful stewards.
It is very easy for children and
adults to think about all the
things they want. It might be
something someone else has or
something shown on television.
In a world where there are so
many things, there is always
something that is better than
what we already have. Too often,
the quest to have the best
becomes all consuming – and
ultimately less and less satisfying.
Contentment does not come
from material things. But that is a
hard lesson to teach. So what
does correlate with happiness? It
is the attitude that Paul describes
in Phil. 4:11-12 as learning to be
content. When we are content
with what we have, we are more
likely to appreciate God’s gifts to
us. But how can we demonstrate
that fact to children? Even at an
early age they experience the
desire to have more and more,
especially something someone else
has. If that desire remains
unchecked, it turns into ugly
patterns of expectation and
entitlement. It is unrealistic to
expect our children not to be
enticed by more things or to
experience peer pressure as they
get older. But children who don’t
know how to control their
appetites often become adults who
are drowning in debt. As parents,
it is our responsibility to model
control techniques. One of these is
delayed gratification. When
children see Mom setting aside
some money each week to make a
major purchase – in fact, when
they help Mom by charting the
progress toward a goal - they
become participants in delayed
gratification. Such an exercise
shows them how to work
towards a goal and helps temper
their appetite for more. With
delayed gratification, there is a
sense of responsibility and
expectation. It teaches discipline,
restraint and impulse control.
They begin to realize how
methodical savings can lead to a
goal they can truly appreciate. As
Dr. David G. Myers states in his
book, The Pursuit of Happiness,
“Happiness depends less on
having things than on our attitude
toward the things we have.” He
also notes that well-being is
something other than being welloff. Helping our children
examine what is meaningful and
then having the courage to
confront the corrosive quest to
always want the best brings a
sense of contentment to our
children and to our families.

Saturday, April 4th, will be the
delivery date for our 2015 Spring
Flower Sale. Flats of begonias,
petunias, marigolds, vincas,
impatiens, coleus will be $17 per
flat. Potato vines are $4 each.
Please consider ordering all your
flowers from us (and get orders
from neighbors/friends). Single
geraniums will also be sold, as
well as hanging baskets and spring
planters. All proceeds will support
the church. Spring is almost
here!
Concert! The Fresh Start Sunday
School Class will host a family
tailgate party beginning at noon
in the southwest corner of the
parking lot. Ticket prices will be
published soon. We’d like to give
a big thanks to Larry Lewis for
securing 125 tickets. To purchase
tickets, find Larry Lewis or Dave
Lewis.
R ANGERS B ASEBALL
The annual church outing to the
Rangers Baseball game is set for
May 3, when the Rangers take on
the Athletics. The first pitch is set
for 2:05 p.m. The game will be
followed by a Casting Crowns
