ANZAC DAY 100th ANNIVERSAY COMMEMORATION
Congratulations to all those from our community who joined
with students to commemorate the 100th anniversary of
the Gallipoli landings. The observance ceremony was a significant event for our school and students are to be congratulated on the way they approached our observance.
The reverence they showed is a credit to them. Well done
to the Gr 5/6 students who coordinated and ran the ceremony, from the music and PA system to the individual
speakers, singers, flag attendants and wreath layers.
We appreciated the attendance of Capt Samirica Payne
from the ADF who gave the address and to the representatives of Rice Village who shared the poppy rug they had
made with help from students. Earlier in the day students
made ANZAC biscuits and planted rosemary and poppy
seeds in honour of the anniversary. Balloons with poppy
seeds were released to mark the occasion and we have
since been contacted by a farmer in Clunes (70kms) who
found a balloon and was very excited to do so. Gr 5/6 students at camp may call in to visit.
All in all it was a moving, authentic experience that everyone involved will long remember.
Our thanks to Miss O’Donnell who coordinated students
for the event and to all staff who helped students understand the significance of the occasion. Thanks to all those
who sent along flowers and to Ruth Chesson for helping
make the wreaths.
Our school captains will return early from camp on Friday
to represent our school at the regional service at the war
memorial in Johnston Park. Lest we forget.

To me ANZAC Day doesn't just mean to remember the soldiers that lost lives in the tragic
event but understand their sacrifices that they made. Their compassion and courage
reminds us that the world we live in would not have been able to come as far as it has
without them. Somehow to me the sacrifice they made isn't just about sacrificing
themselves for their country. It's about sacrificing their family, friends and loved ones in
order to make our country a better place. No one wins a war and in some ways they are only
losing. Losing lives.
So this is What ANZAC day means.
Coco
The Poppy project was really good and I really enjoyed working on it. I can't believe we
made 200 poppies! The throw rug it got made into was amazing! Rice Village must've
worked really hard on it. Thank you everyone who helped and donated poppies.
Willow
I have learnt that ANZAC Day is not a celebration but a commemoration. It’s really
important that we understand this. We commemorate every soldier past and present for
what they have done.
I thought the ANZAC Day ceremony was a great thing to do. I thought the idea of the
balloons was a fantastic idea. The wreath looks fantastic with all the flowers on them. I think
we should do this again another year because it was a fantastic way to commemorate the
soldiers.
ANZAC Day is important to me because we have to commemorate all the soldiers that
fought in war. It’s really important because they sacrificed their lives to help us live a better
life. If they didn’t do what they did, then we wouldn’t be living the great life that we live
today.

The ANZAC ceremony was a huge success! I'm sure all the parents and the representatives
from the Rice Village enjoyed it a lot!. I really enjoyed it and I found the poppy seed balloons
was a great idea! It was really cool having Captain Samarica Payne talk for us! I'm sure that
everyone who had relatives that fought in the war were appreciative of the service!

I also really enjoyed the ANZAC Day service that we held on Monday as it was the first
ANZAC service I've been to. I loved the idea of the balloons too as they were a good way to
remember all the soldiers from over the past 100 years.
ANZAC Day is important to me because it's a day to remember all of the soldiers that where
disabled or killed during war. It is also very important to me because I have a lot of family
and extended family that went to war.

Greetings from the Art Room!
It’s been a busy start to Term 2 with students in all grade levels
undertaking a piece of art for Anzac Day this weekend. They can be
seen on display in the Art room, near your child’s classroom and in
the Office.
This term’s focus in Art is on Construction, Modelling, Weaving and Papier-Mache.
Students will be planning, designing and completing 3D works of art. Therefore, we
would appreciate any donations of:* Wool
* Wood off-cuts (rectangular A5 size maximum)
* Shoe boxes
* Wire coat-hangers
* Old paperback novels
* Old CD’s/DVD’s

CONGRATULATIONS:
Last term, the Grand-Final of the Supercats School League 3 & 4 Basketball was held between Fyans Park Cyclones and
Fyans Park Bulls. A great competitive game was played with the Cyclones winning the game. Thanks to the coaches

Earth Day & ANZAC Day!
Hi Families,
CALLING ALL PARENTS, AUNTS, UNCLES & FRIENDS! DO YOU HAVE A TALENT YOU CAN SHARE WITH US?
Can you ride a unicycle, walk on a tightrope, tame a tiger, make greeting cards, knit, crochet, paint, draw
or play a sport? We would love to have you come and share your talent with us! If you are able to come
and spend 15-30minutes during either BSC or ASC we would love to have you come and share what your
job or talent is with us. Please contact Jodie and we can organise a time that suits you for you to come
and talk with us in O.S.H.C.
On Wednesday the 22nd of April we celebrated Earth Day, we shared with each other the importance of
recycling and working toward a sustainable future, the children were very knowledgeable about the topic
which is fabulous to see that they all care about their carbon footprint. Over the past week the children
have been busy making a variety of ANZAC & Mother's day crafts, playing balloon volleyball and octopus.
We endeavour to ensure that all your child's medical and contact details are kept up to date as possible,
to help us with this task I ask you to come and see me if there is any changes in your or your child's
details. We want to make sure we can contact you if there is an emergency and ensuring that your details
are correct is the best way to do this.
If you know that your child will NOT be attending a session they have been booked into PLEASE ensure
you give me a call to let me know, so that I am not chasing up children that are safely with their caregiver.
I encourage you all to enrol your child/ren with us in case of emergencies that are beyond your control
and to ensure that I have access to your child’s details if needed. To enrol your child/ren go to

We have vacancies every morning and afternoon in O.S.H.C. don’t hesitate to book your child/ren in
