YOUR MISSION COMPLETED: CONTEMPLATING CONDIMENTS
When we asked you to show us your condiments of choice, they didn’t stay bottled
up for long. Here’s a dip into your favourite fixings, from sriracha, salsa and sambal
to classics like ketchup and mustard. On these pages, Twitter handles are in blue
and Instagram handles are in brown.

NEXT MISSION:
SALTY VS. SWEET
This week, it’s a battle between the two
greatest seasonings of them all: salt and
sugar. Thankfully, we live in a world
where we can enjoy all things sweet and
salty. But what if you had to choose? When
put to the test, do you prefer pretzels,
pizzas and pastas or do you like candy
bars, cookies and cake the best? Show
us your favourite food that determines
whether your sweet tooth or your savoury
cravings win out in the end.

Passion for Pork writer Sharman Hnatiuk
says although Alberta pork is a natural fit
for salty in the Salty vs. Sweet mission, you
can pair it easily with sweet if you’re
looking to cut down on the salty flavour.
“Pork chops and apples go so well together.
It’s not often you get to eat something
sweet during a main course on its own,”
says Sharman. “But with pork, fruit just
accents and brings out a nice flavour. It’s
an opportunity to get really creative,
because you can pair almost any fruit out
of your fridge with pork.” From jams to
fruit sauces or compotes, Sharman says
not to be afraid of trying something a bit
different. When she’s looking for a salty
dish, it’s all about local bacon. “Bacon is my
go-to. If I don’t have bacon on the weekend,
I’m a little bit cranky,” Sharman jokes.
“Because it’s smoked and cured, it just has
that perfect hit of salt in the morning.” But
it’s not just for breakfast, she says. “Bacon
is a cut of meat you can eat any time of the
day — breakfast, lunch and dinner.”
If you’re enjoying local ingredients in
your #gastropost this week, make sure
to include the #tasteab tag for an extra
chance to be in the paper!
