"Jerry" Flick - The Greater Cincinnati Police Historical Society Museum

Police Chief Belton J. "Jerry" Flick (1923 - 2015)
Jerry was born on September 6, 1923 in Cook County, Illinois. His family moved to Norwood and he
attended St. Elizabeth and Norwood High Schools and studied at Xavier University and University of
Cincinnati.
Jerry joined the Norwood Police Department on November 1, 1950, being
appointed Patrolman by Police Chief Charles W. Fritz. Patrolman Flick was
promoted every 5 to 7 years thereafter; to Sergeant on January 1, 1957;
Lieutenant on March 1, 1962; and Captain on April 7, 1969.
On July 9, 1974 Safety Director Ray J. Tepe appointed him as Acting Police
Chief until a Chief could be promoted from a promotional examination and
then he topped that list and was permanently made Chief during September
1975.
During his career, he was probably most notably known for his involvement
in opening the Norwood Police Academy. Chief Flick retired in 1980 with 30
years of service to Norwood.
For 40 years, Chief Flick was also an avid art collector and dealer while serving Norwood and after.
He passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at the age of 91.
Chief Flick was predeceased by his daughter, Diane (Flick) Wallace. He is survived by his wife of 70
years, Dorothy H. (Weese) Flick; children, U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Gregory J. (Winnifred L.) Flick
(retired), and Kimberly Flick; and grandchildren, Jessica Zwolinski and Jerome L. Wilson.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at the Holy Trinity Church on
Montgomery Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
