T
hank you G.A.S. Members, Thank you to all who came to say 'Hello' to me at the Gallery when I visited
Geelong recently. What a great opportunity to bring together most of my friends so I had a chance to meet
with them if only for a short time, some had never been in our gallery and intended to return for a better look.
Special thanks to Margaret Muffet, Roma Burge, Lynette Palmer and others for organizing and serving
afternoon tea. Thanks also to G.A.S. for allowing me to use the Gallery .
Maybe this could be the beginning of more social / family gatherings in the future.
Regards, Maurine Wrigley.

SECRETARY’S REPORT
O
n Friday 17th April the Art Society proudly
received our Heritage Award from the National
Trust of Victoria for restoration work carried out on our
building. We were presented with a plaque to
commemorate this which we will have affixed to the
front entrance of the gallery. As noted in last month’s
newsletter, a lot of work was put into the restoration
project by a number of members, Gregor and Norma
Wallace and Sue Robinson to name a few as well as a
great job done by the builders the Jennings Group.
he Committee had sent a letter to the Council
expressing our concern that the parking limit of 2
hours in the carpark next door was inadequate for our
students. As a result the Council have agreed to extend
the limit to three hours on the Eastern side of the car
park (the boundary with the Art Society), this will
make things a bit easier for students but please still be
aware of the time limit as they will be checking for
infringements in the future.
regor Wallace has been an enormous benefit to the
Art Society over many years in ensuring our
maintenance problems are attended to. He has had
some support with these tasks where he requires
assistance e.g. repair of potholes in driveway, refixing
driveway palings, trimming the overgrown foliage at
the rear carpark etc. If anyone would like to offer
assistance to Greg especially to step in while he is
away over the winter months, this would be greatly
appreciated.
he Art Society, to remain viable relies on the
income from our class bookings and our member’s
subscriptions, without this we will not be able to
T
G
continue to operate. We have made the decision to
increase the annual single subscription for members to
$100 per annum, an increase of $12.00 and family
subscription to $150.00. We will waiver the joining fee
for new members. This will apply to the 2015-16
subscription which will be due at the end of June 2015.
e find our Society in a position of competition
with a number of other organisations in Geelong
offering classes and workshops. This is already having
an impact on our class bookings and is of real concern
to us remaining a viable art society. Please support us
with your membership. We also need the input of
members who are willing to offer some of their time
and expertise in the ongoing running of this Society.
We have outgoing long term members of the
Committee that will need to be replaced at the next
AGM in August…we need members to step up to the
cause!.
If we cannot form a viable Committee at the next
AGM, we will be forced to close our doors….please
consider this.
Can any member wishing to be listed as an
emergency gallery roster person please register with
either David Hume or Jacinta Leitch with your
preferred day.

G
AS will no longer be able to hang work at SJOG
hospital. Their administration has said they no
longer want to continue.
Shirley spoke to our contact there who said she was
disappointed but it was out of her hands. She and others
greatly appreciated our work over past months and hoped
that we can in the future get it up and running again.
The Anzac theme exhibition will be the last one.
We have had so much positive feedback from
doctors, nurses and the public over past months, it is very
disappointing SJOG have made this decision.
