Phil realises that not every one’s budget will stretch to a new Harley Davidson, so here are some
USED Harleys that might fit your pocket, and give you that “Afternoon Delight” of a ride.!!!
Phil only has a few used bikes, so here is 1 of his Demo’s, and 3 used ones, take one for a ride in the
morning and ride it home that night well almost, the demo will be on sale soon...
Not a used bike but the first of 3 DEMO’S is a
Road Glide fitted with Tru Dual Headers, Vance
& Hines Monster Round Slip On’s, Vance &
Hines Air Cleaner and of course Pro Tuner.
One of Phil’s used bikes it looks absolutely
fabulous, it is a 2009 FLHT with only 9400
klms, it has NSW rego and has had thousands
spent on extras, seats, pipes breather kit you
name it and all for $24,000 ride away.
What a deal.
Here is a sweet little number it is a 2010 883
Iron and has travelled only 2500 klms, it is
registered to January 2013 and is fitted with
S&S Mufflers.
With a Ride Away price of $11,990 it is
almost a steal
Do you find that on some bikes the ground is a
bit of a stretch, then here is the Harley for you.
It is a 2008 883 Low and has only travelled
400 klms, that’s right it is not a mistake only
400.
It is fitted with a Leather seat and a larger fuel
tank and has Vicky Rego and all for $11,500.
This is basically a new bike all set to go.

This is a report to Members of the Road Safe North East meeting that was held at the Wodonga Bowling Club
on 16th August where approximately 96 motorcyclists attended a meeting that was initially reported as being
about the introduction of compulsory fluro gear for motorcyclists in Victoria.
The good news is that the newspaper incorrectly reported the personal opinion of a local Copper in Wodonga
as being a proposed law, not just his misguided opinion.
It turns out the meeting was to advise the motorcyclists of the district of a survey that was commissioned by
the TAC in March 2012 and handed over to a marketing company who did not bother to contact ANY motorcycle club or group in the North East of Victoria.
Result, approximately 600 survey forms issued and 275 returned, as can be seen hardly a representation of
local motorcyclists and no one at the meeting had been contacted for the survey.
The questions related to age range, riding history, riding purpose and history as well as levels of experience
and if they rode for pleasure or transport.
The next lot of information presented was accidents number and causes, the result being was that other
vehicles (cars & trucks) “not seeing” in reality they mean “not looking”, the next cause was another road user
oncoming, ie: on the wrong side of the road, and road surface was also included in the to three.
The general consensus from the meeting was that driver/rider training was paramount with the next ting being
the gadgets in cars, the likes of iPods and mobile phones , they felt that these should be turned off and made
mandatory whilst driving. We have all seen people talking, texting and having ear phone hanging off their
head so they have no idea of what is going on around them.
Finally they brought up deaths, here unfortunately I got a little heated and must apologise to the other Chapter
Members who were present at the meeting,
The TAC stated in their survey that the majority of motorcycle accidents were what they term single vehicle
this was even recorded when a car/truck/4x4 had forced the rider off the road and then kept going so the figures are not all that correct at least they do not appear so.
Lastly on the 21st August in “The Age” newspaper the following statistic appeared … Out of 45 motorcyclists
killed in the past years 38 were a direct result of cars/trucks/buses.
Now I am not saying that the TAC are wrong with their statistics BUT just maybe they need to reassess how
the accidents are recorded. Food for thought don’t you think. Take care out there, remember they are out to
get you.
RIDE RULES
Riding in a group requires you to follow certain procedures and guidelines in order to
keep the rides safe, cohesive and enjoyable.
1.Arrive at the departure point with a FULL TANK OF FUEL. Fuel stops will be made as
required along the way. The time given is DEPARTURE time. The nominated ROAD
CAPTAIN leads the group. DO NOT OVERTAKE HIM/HER.
2.A motorcycle requires a full lane in which to operate safely. We ride STAGGERED
FORMATION and not side by side.
3.We use only ONE LANE of a multi lane Highway. That is the side the Road captain is
using.
4.A rider will be nominated to ride at the rear of the group. It is his/her responsibility to ensure
that the riders DO NOT GET LOST, and to render assistance if necessary.
5.The group as a whole MUST NOT STOP FOR AN INDIVIDUAL as it can be dangerous to
have the whole group stop on the side of the road. The tail end rider will stop and give
assistance.
6.When we do stop as a group be sure to park well off the road.
7.Always signal your intentions to change lanes. KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE behind the rider
in front. Check your mirrors often and CONCENTRATE ON YOUR RIDING.
8.If every rider can see the RIDER BEHIND him/her in the mirrors, the group should not get
split up. ADJUST YOUR SPEED to do so.
9.We ride AS A GROUP TO AND FROM our destination until we split up to go home. KEEP
THE GROUP TOGETHER on the road.
10.The ride will be listed as a HOG or NON HOG. On a HOG RIDE only Harleys may be
ridden but friends and visitors may meet at the destination.
On a NON HOG ride, members friends and visitors may ride non Harleys but at the rear of the
group.
In both cases any friends or visitors will be the responsibility of the MEMBER WHO INVITED
THEM.

Monthly B-B-Q’s are held the 1st Saturday of the month and need members in attendance to help set up so we are
ready at 9.00 am and we also need “sausage chef’s” until about 12.00 when it finishes.
The B-B-Q ride starts at 12.30, this allows those who have to attend with a car/ute to go home and get back on time
for the ride.
The 2nd Tuesday of the month is the Chapter Meeting this is now held at Sodens Hotel in the back room/bar and best
of all there is parking right outside the door, entry is via the bottle shop entrance.
The 3rd Sunday of the month is the Chapter Monthly Ride and leaves APCO at 10.00 unless advertised otherwise,
once Daylight Savings start then the time is usually revised and Members will be advised of any changes via email
and text so keep an eye on your phones. On that note any Member who has not received the texts please let me know

loss or damage to my property arising from or in connection with any H.O.G. or H.O.G. chapter
activities, “Rides”, “Poker Runs”, “Rallies”, “Field Meets”, or any other activities or events
(hereinafter “EVENTS”) or resulting from acts or omissions occurring during the performance of the
duties of the “RELEASED PARTIES”, even where the damage, loss or injury is caused by negligence
(except wilful neglect). I understand and agree that all H.O.G. members and their guests participate
voluntarily and at their own risk in all ”EVENT(S)” and I assume all risks of injury and damage arising
out of the conduct of such “EVENT(S)”. I waive, release, discharge and hold the “RELEASED
PARTIES” harmless from and against any and all injury loss or damage to my person or property,
and from and against any and all claims, demands, rights, losses (including loss of profits), damages,
costs or expenses (including legal fees and costs of investigation), liabilities or causes of action of any

AFTER THE BBQ RIDE IN AUGUST
SATURDAYS Ride after the BBQ at Phil’s that took us out the Highway we then turned onto Wymah Road
and used the Ferry to cross back into Victoria, it took all nine bikes and we were advised that a new ferry is
on the go that will take 12 bikes (3 cars) then on over the Granya Gap into Tallangatta and then on home. The
only issue we had is the we found out that the bakery at Tallangatta has a new owner who shuts at 2.00pm on
Saturdays so we missed our coffee.
In all a good easy ride with some great roads, according to my grandson it was “Awesome” so I guess that
says it all, I am looking forward to the next BBQ.

Monthly Ride Report Sunday 26th August
As usual, meet at APCO for the 10.00 am departure. Guess what, 12 bikes in total, how awesome was that.
We headed off out to Beechworth and there lost one bike and rider, no not an accident, Ross had to leave us and
return home as his back was giving him issues.
So it was on to the Milawa Bakery for lunch, an enjoyable meal and we all got to meet Charlie, Rob’s granddaughter. (Cute as a button, and not looking anything like her grandfather!!!)
Then our ride leader, Rob, took us to the Boorhaman hall, it is his idea that we may be able to entice the Wagga
Chapter to join us for an overnight jaunt there and wanted to show us the amenities and facilities that were
available. We all thought it was a great idea, with Big al being the most enthusiastic. He could see the potential
of having a great time there what with the Brewery within staggering distance as we all could. This will be one
looked for on the Ride Calendar.
Well, all this riding has made the need for Paul to have a coffee fix so onto the renaissance Chocolate Shop in
the middle of “bum??? Nowhere”. Delicious, even Phil thought of his better half and bought a mixture of
chocolates to take home. That is getting in the good books Phil I must say, hope that she enjoyed them as much
as we did.
Then back to the Murray Valley Highway, into Rutherglen and then onto the road to Chiltern, Barney and under
the railway line (what a droning sweet sound through there with our own Harley made thunder), to follow
alongside the freeway into Wodonga.
What an awesome day, we kept a steady pace, thank you Mr Ride captain, the rain stayed away, we all felt a
little chilly but Alby felt the need after lunch to cover his legs with his wet weather pants for extra warmth, it
was pointed out to him that his bike wasn’t a “naked’ like most.
We had a guest rider with us that made up our number of bikes to twelve, this was Blake, who is on P Plates and
has his 2013 Softail on order.
Blake was riding his 1971 Triumph 650, (hope I got that right), thanks to all for making him welcome and we
look forward to another HOG Member in the making, ready to sign up when his bike arrives.
Goodbyes were made near the Border mail Building at around 3.00pm and we all went our separate ways.
Thanks to all for the great company and an enjoyable ride.
PS: We need more female riders to join in the BBQ and monthly rides, the ratio is not good at the moment running at 12 to 1.

The BBQ Ride...1st September
The second BBQ ride was a great success with 11 bikes/riders heading out around the front of the Weir and on to
Tangambalanga via the back road, we were hardly in town and we were back out again heading past the Police
Station and back around to the Wodonga/Tallangatta road.
We stopped in Tallangatta for a snack and were lucky enough to find the bakery open this time BUT right about
2.00pm they started the close up, we hope that they remain open a little later once the Spring/Summer/Daylight
Savings riding times are here.
From Tallangatta we were back out towards Wodonga but turned off onto the Sandy Creek road, it was the first
time I had been down it and it is all good surface.
We stopped at the T intersection at Sandy Creek where a local footy final was taking place, Mr Plod was out with
two patrol cars one unmarked (a white Commodore wagon) and a Candy Car and had the speed reduced to 80 kmh,
it did not bother us as we had to stop and say good bye to Paul and he had to collect his paper from Rooster.
It was back via Tangambalanga this time up the main street, where the white Commodore was doing business then
a right onto the Highway and then left onto the back road to Yack.
We stopped and said good by to another couple who were headed to Beechworth (sorry I can not remember your
names) and then on back into Wodonga where a coffee was waiting.
In all an excellent short ride on good roads at an easy pace...we had a Learner with us… she did very well and we
look forward to the day her Harley arrives.
Members who are looking for a quality ride might like to make note of these short rides they are very enjoyable and
of course they have the benefit of the good company of Chapter Members.
We all hope to see more and more Members on each ride.
