Began as a proactive method to address
aggression at local middle school in Spring 2008
 Created opportunity for girls to connect to peer
and adult mentors
 Grown to include middle and high school
participants throughout Lakeland, FL.
 PEARLS receive support as they evolve into
responsible leaders committed to bettering their
communities.


To provide young ladies an opportunity to
explore and improve their:
Self-image
 Self-discipline
 Interpersonal skills
 Academic success skills and
 Forward thinking.


successful completion of
the program.

Girls enter meeting room, sign in, then form a circle
 Open with “A Girl’s Pledge,” in a call and response
format led by two students encircled by all others
 Bi-weekly sessions:
1. During 1st meeting an advisor/speaker
introduces topic
2. Girls are required to incorporate topic in their
lives during the following week (no meeting)
3. During 2nd meeting girls share their reflections
on their experiences from the week
 Session closes with “Affirmation”

