Program Dates:
Exchange: Fall Semester: September-December/January (certain classes exams can be
taken early or be completed at the USU testing center); Spring Semester: February-June;
Direct language program: Sept-Dec; Jan-March; April-June
Program Costs:
Semester exchange: ~$3,800 ; Direct language program: TBD. Dependent on program length and credit hours.
Included:
USU resident tuition and fees, and medical insurance for program date . Fundacion language program: tuition and fees, medical
insurance for program dates.
Not Included:
Airfare, housing and meals, passport, visa, local transportation, and other personal/miscellaneous expenses,
Credit:
For credit toward degree requirements, you must plan in advance with an academic advisor.
Accommodations:
Home-stay: ~$900/month, includes partial meals. Residence hall: ~$700/mo, meals not included. Students may also find their own
housing. An apartment list is located on the La Rioja website.
Insurance:
USU provides a comprehensive medical insurance policy for program dates only. For more information go to:
www.usu.edu/riskmgt/other/international/cfm. Participants may purchase up to 7 days of personal travel insurance after the
program. Contact USU Risk Management for details.
Requirements:
GPA: 3.0; Minimum age: 18; Completion of one-year of university-level study before program begins; 5+ semesters of Spanish
(SPAN 3040) or equivalent for regular semester study for EXCHANGE.
Financial Assistance:
Most USU scholarships, Pell grants, and student loans may be applied to this program. If you have questions contact a USU

Academic Notes:
EXCHANGE: For students with 5 plus semesters of college-level Spanish: Take regular classes taught in Spanish at the university
with local students. Courses available in Spanish language and literature, business, engineering, sciences, and Spanish
geography and history.
Application Fee:
$225 (due with application), non-refundable unless determined ineligible.
Student Orientation:
Participants must complete on-line orientation modules through Canvas and attend one in-person pre-departure session.
Travel:

The University of La Rioja (UR) is located on a modern campus in Logroño, capital of La Rioja. The UR is the only university in
this small, quiet region in Northern Spain. La Rioja is where the Monasteries of San Millán de la Cogolla, cradle of the first words
written in the Spanish language, are situated: sites included in UNESCO`s World Heritage List in 1996. The University of La Rioja
was founded in 1992 and, as a center devoted to Higher Education, research, and cultural promotion, has continued the work of
these monasteries in disseminating knowledge and the Spanish language. The University of La Rioja campus is on the outskirts
of the city, but only a short distance from the centre of Logroño. La Rioja is a metropolitan area of 150,000 inhabitants and all the
