Swimming Australia Ltd has three tiers (Le. Bronze, Silver, and Gold) of coaching qualifications under the National Coaching Accreditation. This structure is designed to meet the needs of coaches at all levels. These courses conform to the National Quality Framework for Vocational Education and training. The Goal of Silver License candidate is to be competent in planning, conducting and evaluating coaching programs and enable swimmers to compete successfully at a State and National Level. There is a workbook to complete in 6 months and a Silver Performance Criteria. The array of high quality speakers included keynote presenters from the US Gregg Troy, Bill Sweetenham, Dennis Cottrell, Doug Frost, The CEO of Swimming Australia John Bertrand - Skipper Americas' Cup II and from the Netherland's Jacco Verharen as Head Coach of the Australian Team. There was a lot to take in over 6 days spending 9am- 5pm either in lectures or technical drills at the pool. To listen to experienced coaches and have Olympic and our Australian Swimmers demonstrate the skills was amazing. Topics covered were All Strokes and skills and the biomechanics of the body, Adaptations and energy Systems in the body, Physiotherapy and a better understanding of the body and its movements, load monitoring and Injury prevention, Or David Payne from the A.I.S specializing in Physiology and Training for Peak Fitness, Quadrennial Plan, Annual Plan, Seasonal and session Workout Design , Longer Summer Season and Shorter Winter Season, we also covered Body Composition, fluid and diet, anit Doping and Insurance and Managing a club, There was so much to learn and I can slowly drip feed all this information into our club system, I am very excited about the information and came away very enthusiastic and motivated. There was one thing I came away from the conference was "Passion on fire rather than knowledge on Ice" I will learn my craft but it's how we connect with the athlete that's going to get the best out of them. Our Club is on the right track everything that was discussed is exactly what we are doing and that gives me a lot of confidence and reassurance.
