Just a reminder that any snacks kept in a
resident’s room need to be stored in
sealed, plastic containers. Also, please
help keep an eye on the freshness of
these items.
Spring is a good time in general to make sure closets are gone through, and any winter decorations
are stored away and spring ones gotten out.
It’s been a long winter, so everyone should be
ready to “spiff things up a bit” for Spring!
Resident Profile - Loretta Vaske
Loretta is the highlighted resident for the month of April. If you can’t find Loretta
when you come to visit she might be getting pampered with a manicure at Pink Flamingo, busy at one of her favorite exercise groups such as volleyball, playing bingo,
making crafts or attending one of the church services provided. (Whew!)
Loretta was born November 16, 1925, in Hopkinton. She attended Hazel Green
Township School through the 8th grade. On November 23, 1948, Loretta married
Arthur Vaske (deceased). She has 10 children: Janice Bahl, Dubuque; Joyce
Burkle, Ryan; Alan Vaske, Dundee; Mark Vaske, Manchester; Lori Hoeger, Hopkinton; Dean Vaske,
Dundee; Lois Goedken, Dundee; Lisa Monaghan, Ryan; and John and Joseph Vaske (deceased).
She also has 28 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Through the years Loretta tended to a big garden and also made many quilts. She is a member of
St. Mary’s Church in Manchester. She likes many of the musical entertainment groups that come to
GNH and any activities that involve children. She enjoys many visitors, especially time spent
with her children and grandchildren.
Congratulations, Loretta!
From the Office of Jessie Tibbott, Admissions Director
The Good Neighbor Society recently became a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), allowing us to offer you Independent Living. Our campus now includes Independent Living, Assisted Living, Rehab-to-Home, Memory Care, Long Term Care
and Hospice Services.
Additionally, we have opened up our once-locked CCDI unit known as Garden View,
allowing us to better serve our already-tripled Rehab-to-Home population. Our new
Skilled Nursing Service allows our patients to recover and receive therapies in this
quiet and calming section of our campus.
Our website has also been updated; you can now find our newsletters and calendars under the
Events tab, or type www.goodneighborsociety.org/events/ into the address bar.
If you are interested in finding out more about our services or would like us to present information
about the Good Neighbor Society to a social group, contact me ,Jessie Tibbott, at 563-608-4246.

Sheppard Charitable Trust – Since 1991 the Good Neighbor Society has been the grateful recipient of one-third of the income generated each year by the Sheppard Charitable Trust, established
by Ernest O. Sheppard in his Last Will and Testament. In the past these funds have been used to
support such things as the purchase of our bus, to purchase the grand piano, to support the development of our assisted living facility, the Grounded in Faith Campaign to build our memory care
unit and to support other renovations on our campus. The funds received during 2014 were sent
to our Endowment Fund to support the GNS mission long into the future. The Board of Directors
are grateful to Ernest for his vision and generosity.
GNS Cookbook Update – Have you gotten your copy of the newest GNS Cookbook “From Our Home To Yours” yet? This collection of nearly 800 recipes from
current and former residents/tenants, their families and team members is available
at several locations in Manchester. Those locations include F&M Bank, GNB Bank,
The Bread Basket, The Coffee Den and Widner’s Gift as well as at the Good Neighbor Home business office and at The Meadows. Cost is $12 each. Thanks to all
those who have already gotten their copy!
