Enhancements for genuine Ultra-HD: Subjective Tests
Resolution has no wow effect
UHD visibly better than Full HD at 1.5x screen height (e.g. 84” at 1.6m)
• High Frame Rate: noticeable
• 120Hz native content provides much better quality than 60Hz.
• Big difference with sports content.
• High Dynamic Range: very noticeable
• Perceived video quality and viewing comfort increases with peak luminance
• BUT some viewers reported visual discomfort at high luminance (3000 cd/m2)
• Standardization necessary; no sunglasses!
• Deep colour: noticeable with the right content

UHD Enhancements Depend On Genre
• Scripted content shot to avoid shortcomings in depth of field, motion blur.
• Live sports is the breadwinner of broadcast: fast action with everything sharp.
• UHD Cameras readily available, lenses a significant (and expensive) problem.
• Massive data difficult to transport live in studios etc.
• Workflows / outside broadcast compatible with HD, unlike 3D.
• Streaming services well-suited to movies, live needs broadcast.
• Many streaming UHD viewers likely watching clean HD due to broadband speed variations
