At ETH Zurich, the following salaries are used for scientific assistant II / Post-doctoral fellows
and PhD students. We recommend that you budget the salaries usually applied in your
Department or Institute.
We also recommend that you use the budget calculator created by the Finance Department
for your convenience (Horizon 2020 Budget Calculator).

Yearly inflation and structural costs of 0.8% should be taken into account while budgeting in
subsequent years (e.g., Post-doc in 2d year in 2016: 104‘643 x 100.8% = 105‘480 CHF).
Exchange rate – The Finance dept. recommends applying ECB’s exchange rate at the date of
budgeting:

Projects funded by SERI - SERI will convert the requested amount from € to CHF, applying the
monthly average exchange rate at the call deadline as published by the Swiss National Bank.
Remark: Doctoral students are employed full time and paid according to one out of 5 salary
rates. They devote at least 70% of their working time to their dissertation and the underlying
research project as well as their doctoral studies (Verordnung über das wissenschaftliche Personal
der Eidgenössischen Technischen Hochschule Zürich, Art. 7 und 10).
