Pupils’ Views
We are currently creating an advert to go in Your Autism magazine by the NAS. For
this advert we asked pupils what they thought of the school. Their answers were so
lovely; we wanted to share them with you
Shetland Class
"I found my words at Gretton School, instead of crying and screaming and kicking"
"Gretton School is much better than mainstream for me because the strategies work
and I like the reward system. I love it here"
"This school is better than my first school, I am happier here"
Temple Class
“This is a good school because you get breaks when you are annoyed and not all
schools have reward time. This is the best school ever because it is fun and I have
loads of friends.”
“It is a very good school especially if you have autism. I would recommend it.”
“This school is much better than my old school because the people here understand
the children more and are friendly”
Newton Class
"Gretton is the best school in the whole wide world and coming here makes me
happy!"
Applegate Class
"It's a fantastic school, its brilliant."
Gretton book week – 23/03/15 – 27/03/15
Book fair
Gretton book week started with the arrival of the book fair. The students were able
to spend time looking at the variety of books, stationary and posters on offer and
were even able to use their merits to purchase items. The total takings from the
book fair was £560 meaning that the school will be entitled to £225 of new books for
the library. A huge thank you to Ben and Robbie for all their help with the book fair.
You were both brilliant and exceptionally helpful.
The Queen of Stories storyteller
The story teller arrived in all her finery and the students listened intently to the stories
that she told. They got thoroughly involved in the stories giving suggestions as to
how the story could end.
Get caught reading competition
Students were asked to take pictures of themselves in strange and interesting places
whilst they were reading a book. There were lots of great entries showing students
reading in the bath, reading up a rock climbing wall and even reading whilst riding a
bike! Well done to staff and pupils that entered the competition. The winning entries
were Isaac Lawrence (1st), Wallis Roughead (2nd) and Andrew Montgomery (3rd).
Thank you also to Robbie for organising this competition.
Dress up as you favourite book character day
Students and staff were invited to dress up as their favourite book character. The
school was full of 101 Dalmatians, where’s Wally, characters from Harry Potter,
Gangsta Granny, Pablo the Fox and many more. The winners of the dress as your
favourite book character were Jacob Stimpson, Shaun Feetham, Saul Miller, Presley
Peters, Charlotte Murray, Edmund Moffatt. Thank you to everyone that dressed up
for the day. You all looked fantastic.
Shepreth Wildlife Park
Shetland class went to Shepreth wildlife park for an end of term trip on Tuesday. We
saw lots of wonderful animals and insects such as tigers, red pandas, monkeys,
bats, tarantulas, frogs and much more!! We also had some time in the educational
centre where the pupils had the chance to hold a giant African snail, touch a snake
and stroke a skunk!! A brilliant day for all the pupils!!
College of West Anglia Trip
On Thursday 12th of March, I went to the College of West Anglia in Milton to see the
facilities, ask about work experience and courses available. I really enjoyed the trip,
it was fun, there were lots of varieties of animals to see and I would really like to
attend the college. Similar to CRC it is not full time but the campus was a lot smaller
and less confusing. Even though there were less people at the College of West
Anglia it felt friendlier. There is an opportunity to study dog grooming later on at the
College which sounded interesting as you get paid to groom dogs as well as groom
your own!
Well done Drew. Mr Chagger
