Used with large diameter cannulated screws Slots allow acute screw angles Stainless Steel and Titanium Features and Indications Features – Two designs: large (round) and small (oval) – 316L stainless steel and titanium-6% aluminum-7% niobium alloy – Slotted center hole allows screw angulations up to 70° – Small recess at the top end of the washer facilitates screwdriver insertion The Synthes Spherical Washer distributes the screw load over a large area of the cortical surface of the bone, making it ideal for use in weak, osteoporotic bone. Its recess is deep enough to fully countersink the screw head. Spherical Washers can be used with Synthes cannulated screws 6.5 mm to 7.3 mm in diameter. Notes on use – To position the washer flush against the bone, with the recess below the cortex, use a 13.0 mm Cannulated Drill Bit (351.27) to overdrill the cortex. When drilling, use the 17.0 mm / 15.0 mm Protection Sleeve (357.530) to protect the soft tissue – Before placing the washer in position, thread the appropriate screw through the Spherical Washer. Use a screwdriver to drive the screw into the bone Indications Synthes Spherical Washers are intended to prevent a screw head from breaking through the cortex of the bone, by distributing the forces / load over a large area, when used for fracture fixation of large long bones and bone fragments. In addition, Spherical Washers are intended to prevent projection of the screw head, when the screw must be inserted at an acute angle (e.g., in ankle arthrodesis).
