(p. 3) Events Coffee break (p. 5) GSO elections (p. 6) Spring on UHM campus (p. 4) Comics (p. 6) The Advocacy Committee organized a Lobbying Day at the State Capitol to talk with legislators about issues pertinent to graduate students, e.g. graduate student unionization, the Ombuds Office, and the UH budget. HGEA provided lunch, and the students broke into small groups for meetings with key legislators. (For more information on the bills go to Facebook: UHM Legislative fellows). SB638 SD1: 3/6/15 WAM recommends passage on 3rd Reading; 48 Hrs. Notice 03-10--15 HB553 HD1: 3/6/15 Passed 3rd Reading 3/10/15 Received from House SB325 and HB554 (Relating to the University of Hawaii) This bill makes comprehensive changes affecting the University of Hawaii system. SB325 3/27/15: Passed 2nd Reading. HB2/12/2015: Passed 2nd Reading. Bill HB553 is “crossing over” to the non-originating non originating Chamber for further consideration (House Bills crossover to the Senate and vice versa) versa). 2 GSO needs YOU to make calls, submit online testimony, and/or testify in person. A strong showing of support from a broad swath of graduate students will demonstrate to the legislature that we care and want to see progress. HB96) 1- Go to Legislature's website 2- Sign in 3- Click on submit testimony 5-Fill out form 6- Submit Testimony NOTE: Testimony needs to be written before hand..
