Inside this handbook you will find valuable information regarding the Boy Scout Sleepover. We ask that you take some time to review the material in the handbook and we also ask that you share this information with other people in your group who will be attending the sleepover. This will assure an enjoyable night out at George M. Steinbrenner Field with the Tampa Yankees. (See Directions) CAMPING EQUIPMENT- All scouts and adults sleeping over will put their sleepover items in the Yankees pavilion (there will be signs directing you). The items will be picked up and brought onto the field after the game. PARADE- Gates to the ballpark will open one hour before game time. Uniformed scouts participating in the pre-game parade will gather in the main concourse along the first base line behind sections 104 and 105. There will be signs posted to make sure you get to the right area in preparation for the parade that will begin 45 minutes before game time (5:15pm). DINNER- If a scout purchases the Camper, or Game package then they will receive a food voucher that can be exchanged at any point during the game for a hot dog, chips and soda. SLEEPOVER- Following the game, and once the field is cleared and prepared for a safe sleepover, the scouts will be allowed to bring their tents and any snacks they may have brought, onto the field for the night. The Tampa Yankees will provide a movie on the video board until lights out. Scouts will get their sites ready and lights out will be 15 minutes after the night’s entertainment has concluded. MORNING CLEAN UP- All campers are REQUIRED to assist in field clean up. We will walk the field to pick up any leftover debris. 2 BREAKFAST- Breakfast will be provided after the field clean up and before we take the stadium tour. RAIN OUT POLICIES If the game is cancelled, so is the sleepover. If the game is played, the sleepover will only be cancelled if the weather forecast calls for severe storms overnight or if the field will be damaged. If the sleepover is cancelled, keep your game tickets, sleepover tickets, and breakfast tickets. These tickets will be good for a make-up date on Saturday, June 18th. There will be no refunds on game tickets or sleepover tickets. See rain check policy. Game Tickets- The Tampa Yankees do not refund money on tickets purchased. Keep your tickets; they can be used for a rain check at a future Tampa Yankees 2015 regular season home game, including the sleepover make-up date. Sleepover Ticket- If the sleepover is cancelled for any reason, please hold onto your sleepover ticket because they will be good for the sleepover make-up date. There will be NO REFUNDS. Dinner Tickets- Hold onto your dinner ticket because they will be good for dinner on the night of the make-up game. SLEEPOVER RULES Boys must have chaperones. An adult/scout ratio per safety code must be followed. Only Boy Scouts of West Central Florida and adults who have been background screened may attend and females must sleep in separate tents from boys. DO: • Treat the field with care • Stay in the outfield at all times • Use battery powered devices for lighting • Bring snacks for sleepover portion only DO NOT: • Use plastic or tarps between your tents and the grass. Please put plastic or tarps on the inside of your tents. • Use rain guard on your tents, it washes off and kills the grass. • STAKE DOWN TENTS; no stakes allowed. (Confiscated stakes will NOT be returned) • Go on infield grass at anytime • Use heating devices • Bring wheeled wagons, coolers, etc. Please carry everything on to the field. • Spray bug spray on the field. Please go to main concourse to apply bug spray • Bring anything flammable (lighters, candles, kerosene lanterns) • Bring pets of any kind • Bring ALCOHOL. (Confiscated alcohol will NOT be returned) • SMOKE 3 FAQs What essentials do we need to bring? The list should include a spike-less tent, sleeping bag/pillow, flashlight, proper clothes to sleep in, light jacket/sweatshirt for after the game and any necessary toiletries. Do parents need to purchase a package to sleepover? No. If it is a child then yes a package for the sleepover must be purchased. However, the parent will only get the food vouchers with a camper package and will still be required to purchase a game ticket. Can non scouts purchase the special ticket packages? Yes. Anyone associated with the scouts, such as siblings and close friends, are able to purchase the special scout packages. Who receives patches? All scouts who purchase a “Camper” package or “Game” package will receive a patch. How do I get my patch? Patches will be available for pickup the day of game on the George M. Steinbrenner Field concourse. There will be a “patch voucher” with your ticket that you will need, in order to claim your patch. If you do not receive your patch voucher, please let us know. Is the sleepover available to family members? Yes, parents are welcome and encouraged to attend the game and spend the night. **IF they are a screened (background check & possess a blue card from GSWCF) Will there be adequate supervision? All groups that plan on staying overnight are REQUIRED to have adequate chaperoning by leaders. There will be at least six (6) Tampa Yankees employees on hand to assist during the evening and stay overnight. The number of employees will increase as needed, depending on the number of reservations made. Boys must be with their troop or parent to spend the night. Troops must provide boy/adult ratio per safety code. Where do the scouts store their camping gear during the game? Gear and snacks can be stored in the pavilion from 4pm to the end of the game. Groups should meet after the game between sections 117 and 118 and return to the pavilion to attain the gear and snacks; this will also be announced over the PA system. How/When/Where should we transport our camping gear onto the field? How? We ask that you DO NOT bring wagons or coolers with wheels onto the field. All camping gear should be transported by CARRYING items on to the field. 4 When? Approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of the game. You will not be allowed onto the field until it is safe. An announcement will be made when it is safe to go onto the field. Where? The ONLY entry point on the field when bringing in your equipment and tents will be through the left field fence. What do we need to get into the sleepover? There is a sleepover ticket that should be turned in when entering the field for the sleepover. The sleepover ticket is included in your scout packet that will be with your tickets when you pick them up at the George M. Steinbrenner Field Box Office. Do we need anything to be allowed to eat our dinner? There will be a meal voucher that should be turned in at to the concession stand upon getting your dinner, which, if purchased is included in the scout packet you received when picking up your tickets. Do we need anything to be allowed to eat breakfast? No, however, there will only be a limited amount of food and drinks. What will be included in the dinner? A hot dog, chips and a soda will be included, and will need to be used during the game. If we have someone with special needs, can we get them on the field to spend the night? Yes, special accommodations can be made. Please call Jeremy Ventura at 813-817-9721 to make these arrangements. Will there be concession stands open during the sleepover? No, there will be no concession stands open for the sleepover. Groups are allowed to bring food and beverages into the ballpark for the sleepover portion only. However, no outside food or beverages are allowed in the ballpark during the game. Will there be restrooms open during the sleepover? Yes, the restrooms on the first and third base side of the main concourse will remain open for the entire night. If we need to leave in the middle of the night can we? Once we have everyone on the field, all gates in and out of the park will be locked. If you need to leave for any reason you will need to contact a Tampa Yankees employee on site. Where do we park, and will our car be towed at night? The Tampa Yankees have a large concrete parking lot. You can park in any of the noncovered spots when you arrive and your car will be safe for the night. **The Tampa Yankees are NOT responsible for any lost or stolen items** 5 Direction to George M. Proceed north approximately 3 miles, and George M. Steinbrenner Field will be on the left. From 275 North: Take I-275 north to North Dale Mabry (US highway 92), exit #41B. Proceed north approximately 3 miles, and George M. Steinbrenner Field will be on the left. From the Airport: Proceed out the Airport exit to Spruce Street. Go approximately 2 miles, and take a left onto North Dale Mabry Highway (US highway 92). Drive approximately 1 mile and George M. Steinbrenner Field will be on the left.
