COMPOSERS
Belinda McGuire originally from Toronto, graduated from The Juilliard School
(BFA 2006). Through Belinda McGuire Dance Projects, she performs primarily solo
work, choreographs and engages in collaboration and production. McGuire was
nominated for the 2013 Dora Award for Outstanding Performance (The Heist
Project), was an Artiste en Passant at The International Choreographic Arts Centre
Amsterdam in 2010, a recipient of the 2008 Bessie Schönberg Residency at the Yard,
and was recognized by the 2007 Susan Braun Award of The Dance Films
Association. Her choreography has been presented at the Festival de la Ciudad 2009
(Merida, Yucatan Mexico), the Canada Dance Festival (Ottawa), in Toronto and in
New York City on the stages of the Peter Jay Sharp Theater and Alice Tully Hall,
Joyce Soho as well as in DUMBO, Brooklyn. She has danced with The José Limón
Dance Company, Gallim Dance, Doug Varone and Dancers, Ofelia Lorette de
Mola's DANSCORES, the DOORKNOB Company and The Canadian
Contemporary Dance Theatre. She teaches and choreographs as a guest artist in
New York City for The Limón Institute, The Juilliard School, and Gallim Dance, for
the New Jersey Dance Theater Ensemble, CCDT in Toronto and for various other
schools and universities across North America. As a producer, Belinda launched her
one-woman show The Desert Island Project in New York City and Toronto
(autumn, 2008) and The Heist Project in NYC (December 2011) and in Toronto
(March 2013). Through these solo endeavors, she has commissioned new work from
Kate Alton, Andrea Miller, Sharon B. Moore, Idan Sharabi and has collaborated with
Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten.
Kyle Grimm is a composer and bassist who received his B.M. in music composition
from Western Washington University, where he studied with Roger Briggs and Brad
Sherman. After a three-year hiatus, Kyle drove across the country to pursue his
M.M. in music composition from The Hartt School. He is currently studying with
Ken Steen. Composing for dance has always been of great interest to him, and he is
relishing the opportunity to finally do so.
Nicholas Villeneuve, a native of Canada, was raised in Kingston, Jamaica. In 1997,
he relocated to New York City to study at the Alvin Ailey School under the late
Denise Jefferson, and the tutelage of Benjamin Harkarvy at The Juilliard School. In
2001 he received the title of Dance Captain for Disney's The Lion King in Toronto
and joined Ballet Hispanico as a principal dancer in 2005. After eight seasons with
Ballet Hispanico, he retired in the spring of 2011 to further pursue his love of
directing and choreography. Nicholas has choreographed works for The Company
Dance Theatre in Kingston, Jamaica; The Juilliard School, NY; The Alvin Ailey BFA
Program; Cawthra Park Ensemble in Toronto, Canada and for Perry-Mansfield
Performing Arts School in Steamboat Springs, CO where he was commissioned an
entire program of his work for the New Works Festival in 2010. His collaboration
with Ballet Hispanico, the Jerome Robbins Foundation and the Orchestra of St.
Luke's in 2011 marked his 16th work of choreography entitled "yo recuerdo".
Nicholas has also worked outside of traditional dance companies, choreographing
and coaching for theatre and musical theatre, as well as for numerous HIV/Aids
fundraisers in Canada. His choreographic style ranges from the humorous through
the morbid to whimsically romantic, drawing continuously on great athleticism and
strong linear design. Nicholas's extensive teaching background has taken him across
the country and internationally, giving master classes in modern technique and
contemporary partnering. He was on faculty from 2005 to 2011 at Perry-Mansfield
Performing Arts School as Assistant to the Director and was a part of the guest
faculty at The Juilliard School from 2005-2010. On numerous occasions he has sat
on the adjudication panel for New York City Dance Alliance and American
Ballroom Theatre.
Dan Lis graduated summa cum laude from The Hartt School, where he studied
composition with Dr. David Macbride, Dr. Robert Carl, Ken Steen, and Dr. Tawnie
Olson, and jazz guitar with Rich Goldstein. While an undergraduate he presented
original compositions at two colloquia, received The Burton Family Scholarship in
Composition, the Richard Kountz Trust Scholarship in Composition, a Junior
Regent award, the Hartt Music Theory Department Award, and became a member
of Alpha Chi National Honors Society. He also participated in a masterclass with
composer William Bolcom and taught an afterschool program in composition to
students at Bristow Middle School. He has been commissioned by the 016 New
Music Ensemble and the Alturas Duo, among others. In 2014 he had music used in
a masterclass with the JACK Quartet. His debut album entitled “Soul Refuge” was
released in September 2013, blending natural sounds and original virtual instruments.
His second album, “Exercise Music”, was released in April 2014. He currently
teaches music at Northern Connecticut Community Music School and is on the
administrative staff at The Hartt School Community Division. He is also currently
pursuing a Master of Music in Composition degree at The Hartt School, studying
with Dr. Larry Alan Smith. He is published by Harpster Music Publishing and DWL

Douglas Taige McMahon is a second year graduate student pursuing his Master's
in Music Composition at the Hartt School. Taige is from Charlotte, North Carolina,
where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Classical Guitar and Music
Composition with a Minor in Economics, in May, 2011 from the University of
North Carolina at Charlotte. He has studied music composition under Ken Steen,
Robert Carl, Gilda Lyons, and John Allemeier, and has composed music for a variety
of instrumentations from solo violin to wind ensemble as well as music for theatre,
dance, and fixed media. His pieces have been performed by various groups such as
West Point Strings, The Foot in the Door Ensemble, and the Bonnie Cone String
Quartet.

Andrey Stolyarov is a composer, conductor, and singer, currently finishing his
Master of Music degree in Composition at The Hartt School. Andrey’s recent
achievements in composition include a residency at the Unitarian Society of
Hartford (Spring 2014), an international premiere of his woodwind quintet Six
Celestial Miniatures in Saas-Fee, Switzerland (July 2014), and a premiere of his choral
piece i won’t even stop at the New Jersey ACDA conference (July 2014). His
piece Ebb & Flow won first prize at the 2014 ISAM Festival Joseph Dorfman
International Composition Competition in Ochsenhausen, Germany (August 2014).
Andrey is currently the Director of Music at West Avon Congregational Church in
Avon, CT and is the Director of the Composer’s Chorus at The Hartt School. He is
a private teacher of voice and piano, a CMEA Festival judge, and is an active
professional choral singer in the Hartford and New Haven areas.
Weizhao Zhang is a young composer from Guangzhou, China. He is currently in
his first year of studies at the Hartt School, and is pursuing his Master’s in Music
Composition where he has been a student of Ken Steen. In China, Weizhao
completed his undergraduate degree at Xinghai Conservatory of Music in June 2012.
Throughout his career, he has worked with numerous musicians and ensembles. His
portfolio is very diverse with his pieces have been performed by a variety of
ensembles such as symphony orchestra, string quartet, string orchestra, and chorus.
In addition to his more traditional music compositions, Weizhao has also written
extensively for commercial music productions. In his commercial writing, he has
composed and arranged numerous songs and themes for artists, contemporary pop
ensembles, and production companies. His music has appeared on albums,
television, and recordings throughout China.
GUEST CHOREOGRAPHERS
Kathryn Alter attended Interlochen Arts Academy, and graduated from Purchase
Conservatory of Dance with the highest honors in 2001. Ms. Alter has been a
member of the Limon Dance Company since 2003. She is also a founding member
of Riedel Dance Theater, and has worked with Alan Danielson and Kazuko
Hirabayashi. She is on faculty at the Limon Institute, and teaches internationally. She
is a part of the N.A.D.I.N.E. Project (http://www.nadineproject.com) and helps to
organize the Limon Company Choreographer showcases. Her most recent
choreographic commissions were created in Arizona at Scottsdale Community
College, and for Nemian Dance Company in Mexico City. Alter was a 2014 recipient
of a CUNY Dance Initiative residency.
Adam Barruch began his career as a young actor, performing professionally on
Broadway and in film and television, working with prominent figures such as Tony
Bennett, Jerry Herman and Susan Stroman. He later received dance training at
LaGuardia High School for Music & Art and Performing Arts. After three years, he
graduated early and was accepted into the dance department at The Juilliard
School. As a dancer he has performed the works of Jiri Kylian, Ohad Naharin, Susan
Marshall, Jose Limon, Daniele Dèsnoyers, and is currently a dancer with Sylvain
Émard Danse in Montreal. As a choreographer, Adam’s work has been presented at
Dance Theater Workshop, City Center, NYU/ Skirball Center for the Performing
Arts, The Juilliard School, The Baryshnikov Arts Center, Joe’s Pub, Ailey-Citigroup
Theater, Jacob’s Pillow: Inside/Out, The Cedar Lake Theater, The Harris Theater,
The Yard on Martha’s Vineyard, Bates Dance Festival and Theatre Usine C in
Montreal. Adam Barruch was selected as a participant in the 2011 Alvin Ailey Dance
Foundation New Directions Choreography Lab made possible by generous support
from the Ford Foundation. Adam Barruch’s short-film collaboration with filmmaker
Nel Shelby, Folie a Deux, was screened at the Dance On Camera Festival in Lincoln
Center. He has also created works for companies such as Ailey II, River North
Dance Chicago and BalletX. Adam was the recipient of a 2014 Lotos Foundation
Prize in the Arts and Sciences, which recognizes institutions and individuals for
distinguished accomplishments and exceptional talent in the arts and sciences.

Hartford, where she performed classical works by Limon, Balanchine, Tudor, and
Martha Graham, as well as current choreographers such as Emery LeCrone, Manuel
Vignoulle, and Charlotte Griffin. Miss Dillon was a guest choreographer for the
Periapsis Music and Dance spring 2013 concerts and a finalist in their 2013-14
commission competition, and has presented her work in the 2013 Composers Now
Festival’s Music in Motion concert (with the American Modern Ensemble), the
Provincetown Dance Festival, and other venues. She has attended summer
intensives in the US and abroad and was part of Northwest Dance Project’s Launch
8 intensive. She is currently a company member of Abarukas and recently performed
at the In/Out Festival at Jacob’s Pillow as well as Jazz at Lincoln Center. In the fall
of 2014, she created a new work for Sans Limites Dance as a guest choreographer.

Luke's in 2011 marked his 16th work of choreography entitled "yo recuerdo".
Nicholas has also worked outside of traditional dance companies, choreographing
and coaching for theatre and musical theatre, as well as for numerous HIV/Aids
fundraisers in Canada. His choreographic style ranges from the humorous through
the morbid to whimsically romantic, drawing continuously on great athleticism and
strong linear design. Nicholas's extensive teaching background has taken him across
the country and internationally, giving master classes in modern technique and
contemporary partnering. He was on faculty from 2005 to 2011 at Perry-Mansfield
Performing Arts School as Assistant to the Director and was a part of the guest
faculty at The Juilliard School from 2005-2010. On numerous occasions he has sat
on the adjudication panel for New York City Dance Alliance and American
Ballroom Theatre.
Dan Lis graduated summa cum laude from The Hartt School, where he studied
composition with Dr. David Macbride, Dr. Robert Carl, Ken Steen, and Dr. Tawnie
Olson, and jazz guitar with Rich Goldstein. While an undergraduate he presented
original compositions at two colloquia, received The Burton Family Scholarship in
Composition, the Richard Kountz Trust Scholarship in Composition, a Junior
Regent award, the Hartt Music Theory Department Award, and became a member
of Alpha Chi National Honors Society. He also participated in a masterclass with
composer William Bolcom and taught an afterschool program in composition to
students at Bristow Middle School. He has been commissioned by the 016 New
Music Ensemble and the Alturas Duo, among others. In 2014 he had music used in
a masterclass with the JACK Quartet. His debut album entitled “Soul Refuge” was
released in September 2013, blending natural sounds and original virtual instruments.
His second album, “Exercise Music”, was released in April 2014. He currently
teaches music at Northern Connecticut Community Music School and is on the
administrative staff at The Hartt School Community Division. He is also currently
pursuing a Master of Music in Composition degree at The Hartt School, studying
with Dr. Larry Alan Smith. He is published by Harpster Music Publishing and DWL

Douglas Taige McMahon is a second year graduate student pursuing his Master's
in Music Composition at the Hartt School. Taige is from Charlotte, North Carolina,
where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Classical Guitar and Music
Composition with a Minor in Economics, in May, 2011 from the University of
North Carolina at Charlotte. He has studied music composition under Ken Steen,
Robert Carl, Gilda Lyons, and John Allemeier, and has composed music for a variety
of instrumentations from solo violin to wind ensemble as well as music for theatre,
dance, and fixed media. His pieces have been performed by various groups such as
West Point Strings, The Foot in the Door Ensemble, and the Bonnie Cone String
Quartet.
