Hays County Food Bank 220 Herndon St. San Marcos, TX 78666 (512) 392-8300 www.haysfoodbank.org FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE HAYS COUNTY FOOD BANK LOVES SUNDAY DRIVERS Local Food Bank Desperately Seeking Week-end Van Drivers San Marcos, Texas, March 20, 2015 The Hays County Food Bank (Food Bank) is sending out an official call to action for volunteer van drivers to transport crews to pick up food from HEB and take it back to the food bank on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Drivers would need to report to the Food Bank at 220 Herndon promptly at 7:45 am. Volunteers and their crew are typically done no later than 11:00 am. Training with seasoned drivers will be provided before the volunteers are approved to take the lead on driving the van to the HEB grocery stores in San Marcos, Kyle, and Buda. Drivers must be 25 years or older, with no driving citations for at least 3 years. The Food Bank will run a background check to confirm driving records. Van drivers must also be able to bend and lift 30 pounds. Volunteers are an extremely integral part of the Hays County Food Bank operation. In 2014, more than 300 generous volunteers donated over 17,000 hours to help end hunger in Hays County. In addition to van drivers and food rescue crews, the Food Bank relies on volunteers to help prepare for and help at public distributions and to prepare bags for partner agency pick-up. Among other things, volunteers are also needed to help with receptionist duties and data entry, promoting events, wearing Food Rescue Ranger costumes at fund and food raisers, and working in community gardens and at Adopt-A-Farms.
