Reflection for Pentecost Sunday
Pentecost faith holds that while we build our faith on that of all the believers who have
gone before us, we have the responsibility to listen to our contemporary culture and put
it into conversation with the Gospel.
That’s why courage is one of the Holy Spirit’s pre-eminent gifts. We are not allowed to
retreat from the world but are sent out to enter into conversation with it, and hear in this
dialogue the symphony God is composing here and now between the treble of our daily
life over the continuing bass line of Christ’s life, death and resurrection. Fr Richard
Leonard SJ.
Prayer
Spirit of Christ, stir me;
Spirit of Christ, move me;
Spirit of Christ, fill me;
Spirit of Christ, seal me.
Consecrate in me Your Heart and Will, O Heavenly Father.
Create in me a fountain of virtues.
Seal my soul as Your own, that Your reflection in me may be a light for all to see.
Venerable Nano Nagle…..Pray for Us
Blessed Edmund Rice……Pray for Us
Live Jesus in our Hearts ….Forever
Amen.
Staffing
At the end of this week we have a swap over of the Acting Assistant Principal- Director
Teaching and Learning position. Mr Andrew Fouracre ends his fifteen week stint and next
week Mrs Sharon Hibbert steps in. I’d like to thank on behalf of the whole Hennessy community Mr Fouracre for the fine work he has done so far this year upon the departure of
Mrs Holding at the end of 2014. He stepped into that role with short notice and has supported the staff and students admirably. The permanent Assistant Principal position will
be advertised by Catholic Education in Term 3.
I’d also like to thank Mrs Rita O’Connor for coming off leave to assist in her role as Dean
of Professional Processes on a part time basis. Her help has been invaluable, in particular
providing me with invaluable advice about ‘how things are done around here’ as well as
doing many things to help keep the college organised and functional. As a new Principal
it was extremely helpful. She resumes her leave as of Monday and Mr Fouracre will take
over the Acting Dean of Professional Processes position again for the remainder of the
year.
With Mrs Hibbert’s temporary promotion Mr Mark Schmidt has been appointed to the
Acting Year 10 Coordinator position which he will hold until the end of Term 3. I’d like to
thank him for taking on this position and given his experience I am sure Year 10 will be in
good hands.
With the retirement of Mrs Viv Pavert from the college at the end of Term 1, we are
pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Dean Faught as teacher/librarian. We look
forward to an exciting future ahead as we reconceive the library to meet the emerging
needs of modern learners. On behalf of the Hennessy Community I would like to pay
tribute to the ten years of service by Mrs Pavert and wish her well on her retirement.

Gallagher Mass Saturday night at St Mary’s Parish Church.
Just a reminder that we would like to see all students ( and staff and families) of Gallagher
house and other students and families of course present at mass on Saturday night at the
St Mary’s Parish Church Young commencing at 6.00pm. Each house has a parish mass,
one per term. It is an expectation that all students in each house support their mass each
term. Our students provide the music and readers etc. for the mass. Further a light supper
is provided in the College grounds afterwards. See you all there. Can I ask parents to
please support us by bringing your sons and daughters to mass in particular if they are in
Gallagher House. It is important we get behind and support this to help build our College
community.
Enrolments 2016
Enrolment forms continue to flow in and the College Executive have been busy interviewing Year 6 students and their families which I thank them for. We have been incredibly
impressed by the calibre of the students coming to Hennessy and we are really looking
forward to working with them and their families from 2016 onwards.
Year 12 Parent Teacher Student meetings Monday 25/5/15 4.00pm to 6.00pm
You would have received Skoolbag alerts and a letter home regarding these interviews
next Monday afternoon. This is a very important opportunity to discuss how your daughter / son is travelling on their journey towards the HSC trials early next term. Can I encourage all to make appointments on line and attend the appointment with your daughter / son who should be in full school uniform.
Cambodia Fundraising Underway
Can I encourage all to support our staff and students as they prepare for the Cambodia
immersion trip coming up in June. The fundraising itself goes directly towards their charitable work with the Sisters of Mercy in Cambodia.
Navy Visit to Hennessy
Next Friday we will have a helicopter visit from the Royal Australian Navy Air Wing at
Nowra. The purpose of the visit which will include two ex students Lieut Skea RAN and
Lieut Ross RAA will be to speak about military careers to Years 10, 11 and 12 as well as a
goodwill visit. We look forward to their visit.
DaVinci Decathlon
Next Wednesday a group of Year 7 and 8 students are living out our imperative to ‘Learn
Dynamically’ by participating in the DaVinci Decathlon at Canberra Grammar. This program for Gifted and Talented students sees the student work through a com-
petitive series of problem solving exercises. Best of luck to all involved!
God Bless.

Community Connections
Good Men and Good Women…
I am presently in consultation with external bodies to make presentations
to our yr 7 – 9 students regarding developing positive relationships and the
impact of technology (eg. sexting). These will take place early in term 3 and
in gender groups. It is important that all of our students have the opportunity to reflect upon and develop opportunities to consider how they can
make a difference by being good men and women.
Marcelle Bernard’s Presentations
Marcelle Bernard will be again visiting our school on the 3rd June to present
to our year 7 – 9 students on the topic of Speak Easy and for year 11-12 students the topic is overcoming fear. The cost of these presentations is being
covered by welfare and she has been asked to incorporate sections of our
theme of good men and women in relation to her presentations and entrusts our students with tools, rules and ability of confident communication that can be used in professional and social relationships (please refer
to flier in newsletter)
