The 9th Annual MaxPreps Basketball Tour of Champions Presented by the Army National Guard What is the MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard? The MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard recognizes the finest high school football, girls’ volleyball, boys’ and girls’ soccer, and boys’ and girls’ basketball teams in the country through various celebrations and formal ceremonies. The Tour was inaugurated in 2005 and honored 10 premier football programs. In 2007 boys’ basketball was added and in 2008 the Tour of Champions was expanded to honor both boys and girls. In 2010, the Tour added girls’ volleyball, then girls’ soccer in 2011, and boys’ soccer in 2012. Now, the Tour continues to bring together athletes, coaches, student-body, parents, and fans across the country. Since 2005, the Tour has honored over 589 teams nationwide. Representatives from the Army National Guard will present each team with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy in recognition of their outstanding accomplishments throughout the 2014-15 high school basketball season. How are the National Rankings determined? MaxPreps uses an intricate computer program to determine team rank. Prior season history, school size, and comments on message boards are not considered in the MaxPreps rankings. The system utilizes the huge number of game results stored in the MaxPreps database. Generally, the more a team wins the higher the ranking, but the system also takes into account quality wins (against other highly ranked opponents) and strength of schedule. For example, a team's ranking is hurt more by losing to a team that is ranked below them versus a team ranked ahead. Basketball rankings are updated twice a week. How many teams are honored? Ten schools for boys’ varsity basketball and ten schools for girls’ varsity basketball are honored among over 20,000 basketball teams nationwide. How does a school qualify for the MaxPreps Basketball Tour of Champions? Teams must win their state championship and be highly ranked nationally. What is the Army National Guard’s involvement? The Army National Guard is the presenting partner of the MaxPreps Tour of Champions. Throughout the ceremony, Army National Guard reps will show their support for the honored school, disseminating t-shirts, basketballs and other promotional items to the crowd. The focal point of the Army National Guard’s involvement at each ceremony is the presentation of the Army National Guard national ranking trophy to the head coach and basketball team. In addition the Army National Guard will also present a championship rafter banner to the team that can either be raised at the ceremony or raised at another time.
