Annual Ruth K. Solomon Scholarship Pageant System Guidelines
As a potential contestant and potential winner of the Ruth K. Solomon Scholarship
Pageant, we, the Ruth K. Solomon Scholarship Pageant committee asks that you
read the following guidelines. If for any reason you will not be able to abide by any of
the following rules and regulations, we ask that you reconsider submitting an
application.
1. Ruth K. Solomon Scholarship Pageant contestants must meet the eligibility
requirements that are stated in the application and set forth by the organization.
2. As a title holder you are to serve a full year term as your selected title.
3. As a title holder you are to promote the Ruth K. Solomon Scholarship Pageant
platforms throughout your entire reign. Promotion includes and is not limited to
events, PSA(s), and social/news media marketing.
4. As a contestant you agree to make appearances, meetings, rehearsals, fundraising
activities, etc. that the Ruth K. Solomon Scholarship Pageant has set forth. If more
than 3 (three) meetings, appearances or activities are unexcused you will be
penalized through a 20 (twenty) point score deduction in your total score earned at
the pageant. As a title holder, more than 6 unexcused meetings, appearances, or
activities will result in all materials, titles, royalties, etc. associated with your title to
be relinquished. If your title is relinquished, the 1st runner up in that division will then
be crowned and carry out the duties required of the title holder.
5. As a title holder you will uphold your title with respect, honor, grace, integrity,
and dignity. You will not involve yourself in any activities, which would bring dishonor
to the title and/or the pageant committee, pageant, or fellow contestants. If asked
to remove/edit media included on your social media presence in conflict with the
Ruth K. Solomon brand, you will do so.
6. As a contestant, you are never to consume alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs,
and/or use any form of tobacco while on official business or making an appearance.
No profanity should ever be used while on official business. Official business is
anything that relates to pageant participation.
7. As a contestant, you agree not to endorse any alcoholic beverage or tobacco
company.
8. As a contestant, you agree that if you willingly relinquish or are asked to relinquish
your title or place as a contestant for any reason, that you are responsible for any
financial obligations that are associated with your title or participation as a
contestant. No refunds will be given for entry fees, ads, or other fees that may be
required of a titleholder during their reign with the organization or a contestant.
9. As a contestant, you agree that you meet the following eligibility requirements:
a. You are between the ages of 5 and 8 [Little Miss] or 9 and 12 [Junior Miss] or
13 and 18 [Teen Miss] at the time of the annual competition in July 2015
b. You have a current GPA or graduated with a GPA of 2.5
c. You have been an active member in the Ruth K. Solomon Girls Center
programing within the last 2 (two) years.
d. You meet character criteria as set forth by the Ruth K. Solomon Scholarship
Program
e. You are in reasonably good health to meet the job requirements.
f. You are able to meet the time commitment and job responsibilities as set
forth by the program.
10. All scores are final. Scores can be reviewed after the pageant with the Ruth K.
Solomon Scholarship Pageant committee. In the event of a tie the interview score
will determine winner.
11. The award for
a. Teen Miss Heartland title includes a one-time $1000 scholarship to be mailed
to the secondary educational institution of choice upon receipt of active
enrollment letter from the institution, a crown, a sash, and a Solomon Girls
Center T-shirt.
b. Junior Miss Heartland title includes an age-appropriate prize package, a
crown, a sash, and a Solomon Girls Center T-shirt.
c. Little Miss Heartland title includes an age-appropriate prize package, a
crown, a sash, and a Solomon Girls Center T-shirt.
12. As a contestant and parent/guardian, you agree that Heartland Family Services,
Solomon Girls Center, and the Ruth K. Solomon Scholarship Pageant are not
responsible for any injury endured while participating in rehearsals, appearances, and
the pageant.
13. As a contestant and parent or guardian, you agree to read, complete, and sign the
pageant guidelines and application and return a copy of the paperwork to the Ruth K.
Solomon Scholarship Pageant committee by June 19th, 2015. You also agree to
attend at least one parent meeting.

Ruth K. Solomon Competition Breakdown
The Ruth K. Solomon Scholarship Pageant is an annual event held in the spring of each
year. The following competition categories which contestants will be evaluated on are
as follows:
- Private Interview (Panel Style) (20%) “Miss Professionalism”
This is a seven minute, closed interview with the judges. You will be asked questions
regarding national issues facing communities, especially issues of the heartland. You
will also be asked questions regarding your platform, community programs, and
general pageant questions that are age appropriate. Interview prepares you for public
speaking, job interviews, interpersonal skills and communications, both written and
verbal.
- Fitness Wear (15%) “Miss Fit”
Physical Fitness is a huge part of this system. Size does not matter, but being healthy
does. You will be judged on stage presentation, overall physical appearance,
confidence, and poise in a sportswear selection. Swim suits are not allowed in this
competition. Fitness Wear will help you mature in confidence, poise and commitment
to your physical health. It challenges you at a level you might not have considered
before. Most contestants will tell you this is really the easiest competition. However,
your dedication and perseverance to be in the best physical condition you can be
means discipline.
- Evening Gown (15%) “Miss Elegance”
Evening gown must be ¾ or floor length and not be extremely revealing. Evening
gown is judged on style, grace, poise, confidence and overall appearance. Evening
Gown is the most beautiful of the competitions. This phase of competition challenges
your poise, presence and the ability to handle stress under pressure with the onstage question during this portion of the pageant. Does your inner beauty show?
- On stage Q&A (15%) “Miss Public Speaker”
On stage question will be question regarding a current event or a Solomon platform.
Q&A is judged on articulation, clearly answering the question, composure and the
ability to think quickly on your feet.
- Academics (20%) “Miss Scholastics”
Scoring for this category will be based on a pre-determined GPA scale. The scale will
be based on a 4.0 grade point average. Grades must be submitted to the pageant
committee by the contestant from the school she is currently enrolled in by June 19th
of 2015.
- Talent (Max. time 2 min 10 sec) (15%) “Miss Talented”
Talent is a maximum of 2 minutes and 10 seconds, which after every second a point
will be deducted off total score. Minimum is 1min 45 sec. Talent is judged on artistic
expression, technical skill, stage presence, professionalism, overall appearance and
performance. Talent challenges you to be your best with discipline, dedication and
passion.
-**“Miss Sponsorship”
Sponsorship monies can be raised for each contestant through ad purchase from
family, friends, and businesses. Money contributes to the scholarship fund and to
expenses related to the pageant event. The contestant who sales the most will be
awarded.
-**“People’s Choice Award”
A head shot photograph will be taken of each contestant and posted on the Heartland
Family Service Facebook page. All of the contestants will be dressed similarly to help
create a fair competition. The contest will be judged based off of amount of likes,
comments, and shares. The contestant with the most likes, shares, and comments will
be awarded.
** Special Award: Not apart of the contestant overall total score.
