It has been a few years since Chef Bill Telepan has been at Heart’s Delight and it is
such a treat to have him join us this year! The lucky winner of this lot will head to
the Upper West Side to this cozy farm-to-table American-style restaurant for a four
course dinner with wine from Chef Bill Telepan. In the 2014 Michelin Guide, Telepan was awarded
a Michelin Star! One of New York’s first and most acclaimed devotees of “greenmarket cooking,”

Hidden behind a pawn shop storefront in the Lower East Side, they are known for their pink ladies
room with complimentary bubbly and Champagne brunches. While the décor is feminine with

Sonoma experience. Head over to Peay Vineyards where Andy, along with his brother and sister-inlaw, set out to make wine from their own grapes, grown on their own land. They discovered a parcel
on the remote Sonoma coast and after just over a decade, the Peay vineyard outside Annapolis has
emerged as one of California’s most extraordinary sites. You will all be treated to a VIP Tour and
Tasting and a wonderful dinner prepared by Chef Rob Hunter. That evening you will stay at the
Peay’s newly constructed barn house built from remnants of the old tractor barn that rested on that
spot for over 100 years.
Head over to Napa and Colgin Cellars. Ann Colgin, a former fine art dealer, began her label in
1992, and it quickly became one of the most sought-after names in Napa. You and up to five guests
will enjoy an extensive tour of this private, state-of-the-art winery that features classical design

Julie Johnson from Tres Sabores is joining us for her first Heart’s Delight and she is inviting the
lucky winner of this lot to join her for a two-night stay at the ranch (two couples) and also a tour
& tasting for four guests. Tres Sabores is a small, family-owned ranch on the western Rutherford
Bench land of the Napa Valley growing and produces wine from organically–certified Zinfandel,
Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, and Petit Verdot grapes. Visits include a lovely and informative
walk through the cave and organically managed vineyards & gardens on the property, along with
generous tastings of at least five selections from our current portfolio of estate and single-vineyard
wines. The winning bidder will also receive two bottles of the 2012 Cabernet to take home with
them.
The Hess Collection was founded by Swiss entrepreneur Donald Hess, who first purchased vineyards
on Mount Veeder in 1978. Located in the historic stone winery originally constructed in 1903 by
Colonel Theodore Gier, the winery first opened to the public in 1989. It since has earned international

recognition for its wine, culinary and visitor programs, and provides free public access to Donald
Hess’ extensive private contemporary Art Museum. Spend some time strolling the museum, followed
by a VIP tasting followed by lunch prepared by Executive Chef Chad Hendrickson.

thrown off the backward, youthful style that existed during its first 25 years of life, and
over the last 4-5 years has developed such secondary nuances as cedar and spice box.
The creme de cassis, underlying floral note, full-bodied power, extraordinary purity,
multilayered texture, and finish of over a minute are a showcase for what this Château
accomplished in 1982. The wine is still amazingly youthful, vibrant, and pure. It appears
capable of remaining fruity and vibrant in 2082! Thank God it is beginning to budge,
as I would like to drink most of my supply before I kick the bucket. This is a great,
still youthful wine, and, on occasion, one does understand the hierarchy of Bordeaux
chateaux when you see the complexity and brilliance of this first-growth.”

Kuller who passed away last year. Mark was a long-time friend of Heart’s Delight and
involved since the beginning 16 years ago. He chaired the auction committee a couple
of times, donated his beloved wine to the auction and helped in so many ways – too
many to count. He was a larger than life personality and a true force. We were honored
to have known him for many wonderful years and he meant so much to so many – his
loss is felt dearly. The lot that Max selected is perfect to represent his dad because it is
the crème de la crème for Bordeaux and a stand out vintage!

Head to Lisbon where you will spend three nights in a luxury room with breakfast at
the Sofitel Lisbon Liberdade. From the hotel, step out on to the Avenida da Liberdade,
lined with boutiques and cafés. Sip an afternoon bica (espresso) or chilled glass of
Madeira in the cozy lounge bar and hear stories of the world.
Next, venture to Palacio Belmonte where you will be treated to a two night stay with
breakfast in the Suite Bartolomeu de Gusmão. Considered by Condé Nast to be one of
the most beautiful suites in the world, this level double suite was built in one of the 8th
century Muslim towers. It has a superb terrace with an expansive view over the Alfama
and the River Tagus and a very rare octagonal living room with a high ceiling, original
XVIII century “azulejo” tile panels and stone love seats.
While in Portugal, head to the riverside city of Porto. On the other side of the River
Duoro, Gaia is the main center for Port production. The Warehouses of the most
famous brands (Warre’s, Taylor Fladgate, Fonseca, and Grahams) who mature their
wines underneath characteristic red colored roofs that dominate the heart of the city.
You will have the opportunity to visit any of these houses yourself.
Next, head to Spain where you can take in a soccer match at Camp Nou in Barcelona.
The Camp Nou experience has become an obligatory stop for visitors to go cheer on
F.C. Barcelona!

Join Howard Friedman so he can share his passion for Spanish wines with the lucky
bidder. Truly a special treat! He will arrange for you to visit some of his favorite wineries
in Ribera del Deuro and Rioja. You’ll visit Bodegas Valduero in Ribera del Duero,
which is about two hours north of Madrid. The Viadero family, owners of the Bodega,
consist of Gregorio and his two daughters, Carolina who is the business manager and
Yolanda who is the winemaker. While there, you may be able to visit the 15th century
cellars that go down 120 feet and are over 1,000 feet long. About two hours north from Ribera del Duero
is the Rioja region. The Rioja region is certainly the “sweetheart” region of Spanish wines, producing the
majority of its acclaimed red wines from the Tempranillo grape. Your visit will hopefully include Paternina
Winery in the town of Ollauri - “The Cathedral of Wine” was founded in 1896 and was a favorite of Ernest
Hemmingway’s.
Continue your vineyard visits with a tour and tasting at Abadía Retuerta in Ribera. Home to the five star
hotel Le Domaine and Michelin Star awarded restaurant Refectorio, Abadía Retuerta is a place where the
land and the vine come together. This Duero Valley winery aims to respect and preserve the legacy they have
inherited, the monastery, and its wines. Le Domaine is a 12th-century abbey, a carefully restored Spanish
heritage site. Chef Pablo Montero bases his dishes on a creative vision of tradition and the use of local
ingredients, among which the shoots, herbs and vegetables from the property’s vegetable garden stand out.
From Abadía Retuerta head to Marqués de Riscal, a well-known winery, home to a Frank Gehry designed
hotel and restaurant. With the Guggenheim Museum in mind, Gehry designed The Hotel Marqués de
Riscal. Covered with titanium, Gehry infused his work with the signature colors of Marqués de Riscal: pink
like the wine, gold like the mesh on the Riscal bottles, and silver like the bottle top.
Madrid awaits where you will spend two nights at the Relais & Chateau Hotel Orfila in the heart of the
city. Hotel Orfila was opened in 1999 in a 19th century mansion and is within walking distance of the Prado
and Thyssen museums and Cibeles Square. Hotel Orfila is part of the select elite of Madrid luxury hotels.

Adelsheim was the first winery in the stunning Chehalem Mountains and they built their original
vineyard there in 1972. You and three of your friends will enjoy a tour of Adelsheim Vineyards with
the winemaker and a seated private tasting.
Elk Cove Vineyards was founded in 1974 by Pat and Joe Campbell. They are Oregon winegrowing
pioneers. Winemaker Adam Campbell joined forces with his parents in 1995 and Elk Cove remains
proudly family owned.

celebration dinner for a large real estate transaction that we closed and my boss, who is
a xenophile noticed that this highly regarded wine was on the restaurant wine list for
a nominal price. He said that it was either mispriced by accident or they did not really
have it and they would bring out another vintage of wine. We ordered, the waitstaff
brought out the 1997 and the rest is history. It was a fantastic wine and not like any
other wines that I have had.

I am going to do the 2004 Lassalle Special Club Brut 2004 because Kermit Lynch holds a very special
place in my heart and there is no better way to celebrate life than popping a cork and sharing Champagne
with those you love. I chose Lassalle because of their twenty-eight-year tradition of “une femme, un
esprit, un style” (one woman, one spirit, one style) which shows resilience and defeatable spirit which
I hope to emulate in my life. In the 1970s, Kermit was the first to begin importing artisanal, grower
champagne, and the Lassalles have been in the KLWM portfolio longer than anyone
(There are so many great wines that mean so much to me it’s hard to choose one, but the most
important thing is to share them with friends, family and those closest to your heart)

In August 2012, we traveled to Germany, visiting the wine regions of the Mosel Valley, the Nahe, and
the Rheinhessen. We drank mostly Riesling, of course, but one of the most surprising, and pleasing,
wines of the trip was this amazing Pinot Noir (or Spatburgunder, as the Germans call it). This wine is
designated a “GG” (the equivalent of a grand cru), and is made using old-school methods, including
aging in large wood barrels, allowing the terroir to show through. The young winemaker, Hans Olivier
Spanier, is a rising star, and is obsessed with making what he calls “authentic” wines. Please enjoy this
little memento of our trip and see for yourself that Germany is about more than just Riesling!

Coast, he asked if I’d ever tried the Pinots from Peay Vineyards. When I confessed that I hadn’t,
he brought over a bottle Peay’s 2006 “Pomarium Estate” Pinot Noir. It was the purest expression of
Pinot Noir I’d ever encountered, and at that moment, I became a lifelong ambassador for the winery.

Made completely natural with no sulphur. This dude is the rebirth of slick, his wines are unique and
elegant and full of complexity. A blend of vineyards and varietal, the wine is salty, aeromatic, tannic
and incredibly versatile with foods. As well, only 18 bottles came to DC and I own all of them. This
wine is unlikely to be seen again.
