IS IT NOT TO SHARE YOUR FOOD WITH THE HUNGRY AND TO PROVIDE THE POOR WANDERER WITH SHELTER
On Our Hearts …Message from Ron Calandra
February’s

Our sign-in sheets show that the chronic homeless are
the population that comes out in the bitter cold weather.
They need the food for survival; but, for some of them, the
weather is too cold to stay for second helpings. As with the
weather, the total number of clients that Hearts fed in
February is also historically low.
Channel 4 News came out on a Code Blue night last
month;
their
newscast
encouraged people to donate
warm winter clothing, hats and
blankets for our street clients.
If you spent any length of
time outside during February,
you can relate to the burning
sensation the elements have
on your exposed skin. It is hard
to imagine that anyone can
survive on the streets. But
somehow most of them do.
So nice to have the

Hearts Recycle Program – Spring is Coming!
Hearts realizes how the snow this
winter has affected your ability to
put donations into our donation
bins. We appreciate your tenacity
in finding a way to get over the mounds of snow, or using
another more accessible bin. We apologize for this
inconvenience. As the warm weather breaks this month, we
would like to encourage you to remember usSTIL
during your
spring cleaning. Our Recycling Program offers many ways for
L
you to help and restore the lives of others by recycling
your
unwanted clothing—new, used, torn, LOW
or tattered.
We are able to repurpose it all! ON

The ladies that work
for
Hearts thrift store
HEARTS
THRIFT whether as a cashier,
SHOP
clothing sorter, or
NEWS
volunteer are quite
extraordinary.
They care deeply about people, specifically those that
shop at Hearts Thrift Store. Hearts staff gets to know
them by name and become acquainted with their lives,
stories, and challenges. We’ve told you before that when
a customer hasn’t enough to pay for an item, our cashier
or other staff will put in what the customer is short.
Their good deeds don’t go unnoticed by the
customers. They recently heard from one family around
Valentine’s Day. A little boy called the store to say he was
making a valentine for them; but, his mom’s car was stuck
in the driveway so he’d be in the next week. That family
came in with gifts and treats and told the ladies in the
thrift store that they love them so much and appreciate
what they do! And, that is why they do what they do.
Another Way to Support Hearts
Don’t forget! When you shop at
