Good golfing Helensvale Community Golf Club March 2015 Jake’s corner Chairman/ Captain Let me introduce myself, my name is Jake O’Donnell, and I have been appointed the position of Chairman for the Helensvale Community Golf Club. This is a great honor for me as I have been with the Club for 31 years, and held a number of positions from president to captain. We realized that a separate committee was needed for golf, while the staff and management can get on with the business of running the club. With this in mind the role of my position has been outlined and I look forward to liaising with the club members. I have since met with the Men’s Veterans, The Ladies Veterans & Helensvale Ladies. I have explained the situation regarding golf at Helensvale and how it will affect them. The Ladies, Men’s Vets & Ladies Vets organisations will continue to operate as they have done previously. All queries or disputes regarding golf that cannot be resolved by the appropriate committee are to be referred to either myself or the professional, Brandon Coleman. I have convened a golf disputes disciplinary committee comprising of the following: Jake O’Donnell Jason Maston Brandon Coleman Karen Fechner Jill Mindham will continue on with the great job she does with handicaps and finalising competitions. Jill and I will peruse and either rewrite or update all conditions of play affecting golf at HCGC. Karen Fechner and I have been working on the 2015/16 program of golf and after a number of changes it is now in the process of being printed. The 2015 Pennant season has commenced and Don Lowry is captain along with Derek Porter as Manager. The team has been having mixed success, but are extremely enthusiastic. Brandon Coleman has put together an exciting social program for 2015 that includes: US Masters Monday 13th April 2015 Par 3 challenge Tuesday 26th May 2015 US Open Monday 22nd June 2015 Also a possible skins game in the year featuring Ian Baker, Wayne Grady, Peter Senior & Roger Davis. I have been advised by Jigsaw management that children under the age of 18years are not permitted to drive motorized golf carts on the golf course. As well as an insurance issue they are concerned for their safety and other players on the course. I know that not all members have computers, therefore this newsletter will be going on the website and copies will be made available within the clubhouse. Members should be aware that there have been a number of snakes spotted around the course, if they encounter a snake keep well away and let it go on its way. I realise that there will be some members with ideas or grievances that they wish to resolve or put forward. I ask that you remember I am only appointed to manage and co-ordinate golf, therefor if it is not of golf nature, I ask you to present it in writing to their management team. The ladies have elected their 2015 committee 9 it is capably led by: Ann Martin – President Jennifer Drewitt – Captain I hope that this newsletter explains and answers a lot of your queries and I will endeavor to keep you informed of all the golfing news & changes as it happens.
