Common FAQs Why should I attend an in-person orientation if I’m already completing online orientation?
The online orientation is important ASU information for all students. ASU is a big organization and
it is important for students to make personal connections with advisors, faculty, and
classmates. Attending orientation in-person exposes you to specific information about your college
and is the first step in meeting classmates and advisors to start making connections.
If I have already spoken with an advisor and registered, do I need to attend this?
No, this event is not necessary for students who have already spoken with their advisor and
received recommendations for their class schedule.
What if I cannot attend any of the listed dates?
Please contact the Herberger Institute Office of Student Success (advising office) at 480.965.4495.
What am I supposed to do about the note on My ASU page that says I have an advising hold?
During the in-person orientation session, your advisor will remove your advising hold.
Where can I park when I get to campus?
ASU has limited parking on campus. Please visit https://cfo.asu.edu/pts-visitor-tempe. Also note
that visitor parking lots are metered and the meter stations accept both cash and credit cards. Lot
20 is the closest lot to the Herberger Institute facilities. There is also a City of Tempe metered lot
(identical costs to ASU’s Lot 20) located off of University (between Myrtle and Forest).
Is there any dress code expected?
We encourage students and their guests to dress casually for the weather. Please wear
comfortable walking shoes. While the weather outside may be warm, inside can be cool –
sometimes too cold. Some people may wish to bring an extra sweatshirt or light jacket to wear in
case you get cool inside. You may also want to bring an umbrella for sunshade.
When can I register for classes?
Students will register for classes during the orientation (immediately following 1-on-1 advising
appointments).
Who can I contact if I have questions or concerns?
Please contact the Herberger Institute Office of Student Success (advising office) at 480.965.4495.
