From Pastor Chuck
Dear Church Family,
Spring has arrived, and in Florida our
green just became brighter. As the spring
rains wash all the pollen from the air, we
begin to take in the warmth of this
beautiful spring weather. Spring is when
we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus.
Easter Sunday, April 5 will be a glorious
day, reminding us that we exist as a
church to proclaim to the world that
Jesus is Risen from the dead and is alive
forevermore.
We use terms such as hope and new
birth, belief and new life. We sing of
victory over sin and death; Jesus lives!
This April we will continue to tell of
Jesus and His love as we relate the stories
of what Jesus did in the lives of those
who trusted Him in Biblical times and
what Jesus does in the lives of those who
trust Him today. We are people of the
Resurrection. We are people of Hope.
We are people that show Hope to the
world as we live for Christ.
“like” Heritage United Methodist
worship and celebrate that Christ is
Risen. Hallelujah! He is Risen Indeed!
Bring with you a spring flower from your
garden and place it on the floral cross as
you enter the church. Don’t miss church
on this glorious day.
Starting April 12 we will begin our new
series, “Stories: From the New Testament
and of Today.” Come and hear what
happened because Jesus lives.
Mark your calendars now for Sunday
night, April 19 when we will be holding a
Church Wide Baptism event at
Honeymoon Island at 6 pm. Our
Confirmation Class will be experiencing
baptism by immersion. This opportunity
is open to anyone who has accepted
Jesus and would like to be baptized at
the beach. If you have never been
baptized, or have rededicated your life to
Jesus and would like to give public
testimony of the new work God has done
in your life, we hope you will sign up to
join us in this beautiful setting for this
special event.
On Thursday, April 2 at 7 pm, we will
join with our Northwood Presbyterian
friends for our Holy Thursday
Communion Service at their church.
Pastor John will be bringing the message
as we remember the Last Supper
together. (Because Easter falls on the first
Sunday of April, we will not have
communion on Easter Sunday, so you
will want to take this opportunity to
receive communion in April). April 3 we
will host the Good Friday service at noon
here at Heritage. We will remember that
love put Jesus on the cross—His love for
us.
April is the Month of Resurrection.
Please come and worship Jesus, who
lives and reigns forever.
Easter Sunday will begin with the Sunrise
Service led by our students at Philippi
Park at 7 am. Jason Williams, Director of
our Student Ministries, will bring the
message. Greet the Risen Lord as the sun
rises over Tampa Bay. Let me encourage
you to bring a blanket or lawn chairs.
Now as we look to April, we celebrate
Easter and all that Christ has done for
us! We will be celebrating with a New
Sermon Series titled, “Stories from the
New Testament and of Today.” We will
share stories of how peoples lives are
forever changed when they encounter
Jesus! And at the end of the month we
will witness lives being changed as we
celebrate with new baptisms!
Then everyone is invited to attend one of
our three Easter Celebration Services
here at the church when we will sing,
See you at Church
Sr. Pastor
From Pastor John
What an exciting month! We reached
hundreds of people with God’s love
through our outreach, had a very
successful rummage sale and worshiped
with the Kuyasa kids African choir!
God is doing amazing things in our midst
here at Heritage, and I want to
encourage us all to not only recognize
what He is doing but also press in for
more!
Let’s continue to PRAY and see what
God will do in us, through us and all
around us! He is great and He does
miracles so great! Let’s believe Him for
more in this new season!
“God awaken our hearts, give us eyes to
see and ears to hear what the Spirit is
doing and saying. Look on us in your
great mercy and use us to usher in a
world wide revival! May your kingdom
come and will be done in Jesus name,
amen!”
Blessings friends,
Assistant Pastor
Beach Baptism
Baptism is a special moment in the lives
of all believers, a time when we choose,
for ourselves, to follow God. As a
church we have the awesome
opportunity to celebrate with our
students as they begin a life long journey
with Jesus. It is also a call for us to
remember our own baptism and what
God is doing in our lives.
On April 19 at 6 pm we are going to
gather at the beach on Honeymoon
Island to join for worship and then
baptize our confirmation students. There
is a small fee (around $8 for a car load)
to get onto the island. We hope this
doesn’t discourage you from attending.
Looking forward to a great night of
worship and celebrating what God is
doing in the lives of our students.
Blessings,
Director of Student Ministry

Good Friday, April 3:
Joint Service with Northwood Presbyterian at Heritage UMC at noon.
Easter Sunday, April 5:
 7 am – Sunrise Service at Philippe Park – The Lighthouse Student Ministry of Heritage will be leading this service, and Jason

Easter Sunday is traditionally one of the Sundays that people who do not regularly attend church, come to church. Since some

ring again. We meet Wednesdays, 7 pm in Room B3. If you are

glad you did.
Choir and Praise Ensemble
Our traditional music director, Rob Knabel, would like to invite
members of our church family to consider joining our music
ministry at both the 8:30 and 11:10 am services. Our ministry is a
LOT more than simply singing; we are a small group family
within the church! Rob places emphasis on development of the
spirit along with the music. Members agree that they enjoy
fellowship and support in addition to the musical satisfaction they
receive.
Rob sees the music as much more than just performing in a
church service. He sees it as a gift to God to anoint the worship
service with God's Holy presence through the power of the Holy
Spirit. We perform for God, and the church family enjoys the
benefit. This emphasis makes the rehearsals and presentations so
much more satisfying! We rehearse on Thursday nights. Prior
experience is not necessary to join; we take you as you are and
your development begins!! Rob's cell is 727.515.1817 or you can
email him at [email protected] for further information.

Joy Circle:
Thank you to Heidi Haught for leading
our lesson and Sandra Walling for
making restaurant arrangements in
March. Heidi helped us with the
meaning of Luke 8:16-19, the parable
about the lamp and the light. There
were 20 of us at Perkins in Palm Harbor,
and everyone had a nice time getting to
know one another a little more.
Our next meeting is April 13, and Terry
Vann and Betty Cox will tell us about the
parable of the lost sheep. Be sure to join
us at Perkins at 5:30 pm. for dinner and
then the lesson. Come make some new
friends and enjoy a nice meal together.

16th Annual High Tea
Saturday, May 16, at 10 am.
What is the High Tea?: It is an
outreach event that Women’s
Ministry sponsors. It is an
opportunity to invite friends from
Heritage Monthly Herald
Page 5
Questions? Triss Masters at ext. 115 or Diane Osborne at ext. 144
outside of Heritage to attend.
Consider your child’s teacher, your
hair stylist, your child’s piano
instructor, a neighbor or a friend! It
is 2 hours of delicious food and an
inspirational speaker. The Fellowship
Hall is transformed into a tea room,
where each table has its own theme,
and décor. It is a wonderful time to
just enjoy the pretty dishes, creativity
of our hostesses, and great
conversation. We use our proceeds
to help fund our September retreat.
We need Hostesses!
What is a Hostess?: A hostess
decorates one round table to seat 8.
We have our own white linen
tablecloths for this tea, or we can
make arrangements for you to rent a
colored tablecloth. The hostess brings
her own dishes and table settings to
create a beautiful table. China and
crystal are often used, but other
delightfully different table wear is an
option. The hostess can reserve the
table to invite her
own friends, or her table can be
open for ticket sales. If you have 6
friends you want to invite, we
encourage you to be a hostess. We
are asking our hostesses this year to
get their own assistants. Neither the
hostesses nor their assistants need to
buy tickets; their tickets are
complimentary. We have many ladies
who want to attend and will need lots
of hostesses.
Do I have to be invited by a hostess
to attend? No, you can purchase a
ticket to sit at any of our tables.
If you have questions or would like
to serve as a hostess, assistant,
kitchen help or with food
preparation, contact the Adult
Ministry office: Triss
Masters at 727.796.1329,
x115 or Diane
Osborne at ext. 144.

Serving in Ministry
Service Opportunities Available

We welcome your Gifts of Hospitality
and Service.

the 8:30 and 11:10 am services. If you
would like to be a part of this team,
please contact the church office at
727.796.1329.
 Coffee Fellowship: Prepare, replenish

your preferred time. Work one

We also need volunteers to help with
Coffee Fellowship in Building D.
 Greeters: Arrive 20 minutes before
the service to greet at the Main Door
or Gate. Be one of the first faces to
welcome members and guests.
For any of the above opportunities,
contact Diane Osborne at

[email protected].
 Parking and Traffic Team: Sunday
mornings between services. Contact
Triss Masters at ext. 115.

Caregiving Meals
Periodically we try to provide meals for
someone coming home from the hospital
or rehab. It is such a blessing to the
person or family. It doesn’t have to be
home cooked; it can be picked up at a
restaurant or grocery deli.
We also have a website:
takethemameal.com (Take Them A
Meal). This site allows you to review
available dates and to sign up for one
convenient for you. Furthermore, you
can review what others are bringing in
order to avoid duplicating meals. Please,
remember to add your phone number,
just in case any changes need to be
made. If you do not have e-mail, we will
still be doing some phone calling, and
you can always call the church office if
you have any questions or comments.
Taking a meal to a family is a great way
to show God’s loving care. Contact Diane
Osborne at [email protected] or
727.796.1329 x144.

Communion Prep Team
Our Communion Prep Team meets the
Saturday before the first Sunday of the
month at 1 pm. We would love to have
you join us to help prepare for Holy
Communion. We also have a team of
people who take a turn once every two
or three months to put out the elements
prior to the service they attend and
return them to the Sacristy after the
service. If you would like to be on either
of these rotating teams, please contact
Sandy Walling at 727.726.5948 or email
[email protected].
Prayer Chain:
We have a prayer chain that supports
you in prayer. To place a request on our
prayer chain:
 You can write it on the tear-off of your
Sunday bulletin and place it in the
offering.
 You can call the church office at
727.796.1329 and ask for Betty at ext.
148, or email her:

Your prayer requests are shared with the
church staff and our prayer chain. If you
would like to be part of our prayer chain
and receive in the mail (and periodic
Page 7
email) concerns that you can lift in
prayer to God, indicate your desire on
the tear-off in the Sunday Bulletin.
Kitchen Patrol Ministry
Do you have the gift of service and are
willing to help clean the kitchen a few
hours each month? The Kitchen Patrol
Ministry Team has a couple of openings
the third week of each month. If you
would like to join our dedicated team of
volunteers who keep us in compliance
with Health Department regulations,
check the appropriate box on the bulletin
tear-off. We are blessed that our kitchen
sparkles each week, and we are grateful
to those who have served us in the past.
Please consider this important
opportunity to be the hands and feet of
Christ. Contact Diane Osborne, ext. 144
if you have any questions.
Pet Therapy
The pet therapy team at Heritage visits
our homebound church members as well
as many others throughout our
community. You can help bring comfort
and joy to those in need by sharing the
love your dog or cat has to offer. Please
call Dana Reames at 727.796.5867 to find
out how to get your pet screened and
registered for pet therapy.
Transportation Needed!
The Walk by Faith Bible study, also
known as the V.I.P. Ministry for those
experiencing ANY TYPE OF VISUAL
CONCERN, is beginning its 11th year.
This Bible study meets the first and third
Thursdays of each month, 6:30-8:30 pm
in the Parlor. We continue to need
assistance with transporting various
members.
Sometimes transportation to and from
the Bible study is needed and sometimes,
it is only a one-way trip. If you are able
to transport once a month or once every
two months, your service is greatly
needed and would be sincerely
appreciated.
This is a wonderful opportunity to serve
the Lord. Thank you for your
contribution to the furtherance of this
ministry. Please call Marsha Hurtz,
facilitator at (727)796-1298.

MAINTAIN KIDNEY HEALTH
Your kidneys have a big job to do. They
filter 200 liters of blood a day and help
regulate blood pressure and red blood cell
production. But kidney disease due to
diabetes, high blood pressure or a family
history of kidney failure can lead to
complications like high blood pressure,
anemia, weak bones and nerve damage.
Kidney disease also increases the risk for
cardiovascular disease and can lead to
complete kidney failure. The most
common causes of kidney disease are
diabetes and high blood pressure. If these
prevention steps look familiar, there is a
good reason. They are also key to a healthy
heart and a healthy body.
DON'T SMOKE. Smoking slows the blood
flow to the kidneys and other vital organs
and can worsen already existing kidney
disease.
LIMIT ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION. Too
much alcohol adversely affects kidney
function and increases one's risk for high
blood pressure.
MAINTAIN A HEALTHY WEIGHT. Excess
weight increases the risk for diabetes and
high blood pressure, the leading causes of
kidney disease and kidney failure.
FOLLOW A HEALTHY DIET THAT IS
LOWER IN SODIUM. Sodium can
increase blood pressure levels, leading to
high blood pressure which can damage
kidneys.
EXERCISE REGULARLY to help control
weight and blood pressure, as well as stress.
Also, avoid taking any more over the
counter NSAIDS than necessary no matter
what you hear on TV. Taking too many of
this group of medications can damage the
kidneys.

If you have any questions, you may contact
a nurse by calling the church office at
727.796.1329. A nurse will return your call.
