Highlands Ranch Voices April 2015 WELCOME NEW BOARD MEMBERS—At the general meeting of HR homeowners in February, the membership elected Tommy Springfield and Shawn McElroy to the board. Welcome and thank you to Tommy and Shawn. And thank you to the outgoing directors for their service to the neighborhood: Max Martin and Carolyn Bentzinger. Carolyn spearheaded the three-year landscaping project that enhances our entrance and will continue in that postition for a short time. The total number of homeowners voting, in person and via Proxy and Absentee Ballot, at the Annual Meeting was 56. To learn what is happening in our community, go to the HOA website, www.highlandsranchhoa.com to read the posted DRAFT Annual Meeting Minutes, which are subject to approval at the 2016 Annual Meeting. Highlands Ranch now has 117 homes on 130 lots with three homes under construction and ten for resale. Notes & Notices BULK TRASH PICK-UP -- Tiger Sanitation is scheduled to do a bulk trash pick-up in Highlands Ranch on Saturday, April 18. The HOA Board of Directors unanimously voted for the Association to pay a nominal fee for this service so that it will be done at no cost to individual homeowners. Have your bulk items out near the street by 8 am on April 18. Below are additional guidelines provided by Tiger Sanitation. Acceptable Items—Appliances, furniture, extra bagged yard waste and other large items. Brush and limbs should be cut in 4’ foot lengths and tied in bundles not exceeding 35 lbs. each. Small amounts of remodeling debris should be no longer than 4 feet in length, tied in bundles or in bags or trash cans. Unacceptable Items—Large amounts of loose brush and construction/demolition debris. Paint, used oil, antifreeze, batteries, household chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and all other hazardous materials and liquids. Tires are also not accepted at the landfills. Hazardous Waste Pickup (paint, oil, household chemicals, etc.) is provided by Bexar County at no cost. You will need to schedule a pickup at 1-800-4497587 or [email protected] . Recommendations—We recommend that you use up the chemicals for their intended use when possible. Paint can be poured on to cardboard and allowed to dry, then you can dispose of the cardboard with the regular trash collection. Used oil, antifreeze and car batteries can sometimes be taken to automotive parts/repair shops. Some shops, but not all, will accept these items so call them ahead of time. Consider composting and mulching yard waste. Donate useable items to charities. Recycling -- If you need a larger recycling container than the provided 13 gallon plastic crate, Tiger Sanitation will now swap it out, at no charge, for a 96 gallon trash can with wheels and a green lid, which designates the can for recycling only. Call Tiger Sanitation, 210-333-4287. Thanks for your recycling efforts! TXDOT I-10 IMPROVEMENTS--Several HR homeowners attended the February 19 TxDOT public meeting on the planned improvements to I-10. Construction will begin in the fall 2015 on the Old Frederickburg Road overpass first. TxDOT is proposing improvements to I-10 W between Ralph Fair Rd. and Fair Oaks Pkwy. The project includes: * Converting existing I-10 two-way frontage roads to one-way frontage roads * Constructing new I-10 overpass at Old Fredericksburg Road and Buckskin Dr. * Replacing and expanding the existing Fair Oaks Pkwy bridge over I-10 * Reconfiguring entrance and exit ramps along the corridor Info and a schematic are at: http://www.txdot.gov/inside-txdot/projects/studies/san-antonio/i-10w-perimeter.html SAN ANTONIO ANNEXATION PLANS – In December 2014 the city council approved the study of "limited purpose annexation" of three areas this year which includes the IH 10 corridor (Highlands Ranch area). It will probably be a "limited purpose annexation" at first followed by the phasing in of "full service annexation" over a three year period.
