SCHOOL WEEKLY NEWSLETTER: - Monday 16th March 2015
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Whanau,
Thank you everyone for your attendance this week at the Hikutaia School Triathlon, we were very
fortunate with the weather and children all made us proud with their efforts on the day. A special
thank you to the parents and teachers who formed teams to compete against our year eights this is
highlight for them, thanks. A special mention to the eleven and twelve year old boys and their
support of each other, what a great group of boys!
Trail Ride
The weather held out and there was a great turn out to the Hikutaia School Annual Trail Ride. An
enormous thank you to Richard Cox for the co-ordination of this event, the many land owners who
this event could not happen without, Whyteline, past parents and pupils who continue to support this
event especially Paul and Alison Bax and Richard Bax, helpers setting up and taking down the track
and the many helpers in the PTA kitchen.
Kowhai Award
As most of you know the supreme weekly award is the ‘Kowhai Award’ this award is given
to children who demonstrate the school values and strive for excellence. The award is
given out at our weekly celebration on a Friday at assembly and the winner’s virtues are
espoused.
This week’s winner was Cooper Hughes. Cooper is a quiet conscientious
worker who calmly gets on with the job. Cooper has grown in confidence
this year. Cooper has a great sense of humour and is a good friend to
everyone, he is always friendly. Cooper enjoys learning and has a
positive attitude towards his learning this shows in his achievement, he
shows strength in Mathematics, Literacy and Physical Education
representing Hikutaia at Ohinemuri for swimming. Keep up the good
work Cooper, we are very proud of you and enjoy having you at Hikutaia
School!
Hockey Big Day Out, Ngatea Tuesday 24th March 2015
All children in years 0 – 4 will be attending the ‘Hockey Big Day Out’ at Ngatea. This is a give it a go
day, where children are able try out hockey in teams of eight playing six a side. We will be taking
hockey sticks for the children to use to play but if children have their own they may bring them also,
all children need mouth guards and shin pads (cardboard down long socks works as well as
shin pads).
Whole School Camp
All forms for the camp went home last week please make sure you have these back to school as
soon as possible, camp fees will need to be paid before the end of term also unless otherwise
arranged through the principal.
Karen Reynolds
(Principal)
Room 1: Mrs Robinson & Ms Reynolds
Hi All,
Looking forward to week 7 with a relatively quiet week, busy in class getting our writing samples completed and
portfolios prepared. Also this week the children will have the opportunity to participate in hockey and cricket skills. Well
done to all our sports people for doing so well with all the events in the last week or so. This week will be our last week
of swimming so as of next week there will be no need for togs.
Regards Mrs Robinson and Ms Reynolds.
Room 2: Miss McIntosh.
Well done to all the children for participating in the triathlon last week.
Last week our homework was out of routine, so this week we will have until next Monday to learn and test our words,
spelling words are on google drive which all children can access and will bring home a spelling sheet for practice. I
have printed out words for children who don't have access to the internet also.
They will also have a basic facts sheet for homework as well as the normal 30-40 minutes on Maths whizz at home to
do. Children need to have 90 minutes (including class time) by Friday.
We have finished swimming for the year.
Thanks Miss McIntosh.
Room 5: Miss McNeill
Welcome to week 7
It was great to see all the children enjoy last week with our wacky wheel day and the triathlon. I was very impressed
with everyone’s effort.
This is another busy week and the children will continue to strive to achieve their personal learning goals.
Mrs Player is in Room 5 to continue her artwork with the children on Tuesday. Have a nice week.
Thanks Hayley McNeill.
Room 4: Mrs Cameron
Week 7
Great to see everybody giving the triathlon a go on Friday. This week is a quieter week. Tomorrow we are having a 30
minute session of hockey with Sports Waikato, in readiness for our hockey day out next week. Swimming will continue
for as long as it stays warm.
Our inquiry unit on Co-operation is coming to an end with an assessment being carried out next week.
Last week the children did a recount writing sample which will be included in their portfolios coming home next week.
Lastly if your child has ordered lunch on a Friday could you let them know that morning. Some think they have and
they haven't and vice versa. Thanks have a good week.

association at Hikutaia School.
Thank-you
Thank you to all those that helped and supported our Hikutaia Trail ride 2015.
It takes a whole team to put this event together setting up the track, marshalling the event, setting up and
running the kitchen, putting all the fences back up afterwards, so thanks to all those that gave time to do
this.
A big thank you to the PTA for another wonderful effort in the kitchen and registrations.
Thanks to local community and past pupils for your continued support including Richard and Paul Bax.
Also thank you to our sponsors Whyteline, Murphy Bus, Fonterra, O'Meara Refrigeration, Electro services,
R D 1, Gallagher, Boese Landcare,
Once again a big thank you to the landowners for allowing this opportunity to fundraise for the school.
There was a great turnout with 243 registered riders, not bad even with the threat of the cyclone.
Friday Lunches
This Friday lunch is Apple Crumble $2.50, please have orders in by Thursday morning.
