HT pamphlet.indd 1 6/05/15 1:39 pm For over five decades New Zealanders have been making an impact in Nepal. Ever since Sir Edmund Hillary first set up a school in a small Sherpa village near Everest called Khumjung, New Zealanders have been giving their time, money and support to help the people of Nepal through the Himalayan Trust. To Ed, his greatest achievement was not climbing Everest, but helping the people of Nepal. HT pamphlet.indd 2 6/05/15 1:39 pm We’ve helped by building schools and hospitals, training teachers and doctors, supplying volunteers, restoring forests, providing help in emergencies and much more. 25 April 2015 - A 7.8 magnitude earthquake caused widespread devastation throughout Nepal, including the destruction of schools, clinics and homes in Solukhumbu. Ed led the way for the Trust until his death in 2008. Now we follow in his footsteps and continue the work that was most valuable to him.
