About Sunderdhunga Trek: Sunderdhunga Valley is one of the most picturesque valleys of Kumaun Himalaya. The valley, with two glaciers: Maktoli and Sukhram, is situated to the west of Pindari valley and the name means “The Valley of Beauitiful Stones”. There is a myth that a man washing his blanket in the river found some beautiful stone, presumably gold. The trekking trail meanders along the bank of river Sunderdhunga up to its source through thick rhododendron, maple, pine, cedar and birch forest, by the remote villages nestled in mountain slopes, crossing gushing rivulets, meadows of alpine flora and finally to rocky terrain with seasonal snow patches. Dhakuri produces one of the best panoramas of Indian Himalaya, much closer to most others. From left to right, Durgakot, Tharkot, Bhanauti, Mrigthuni ridge, Maiktoli, Panwali Dwar, Nanda Khat, Baljauri, Nanda Kot, Nanda Bhanot & Laspa Dhura. Access to Loharkhet (The trek base) and return to Kathgodam: Depending upon the trek members we can arrange a pickup from Kathgodam to Loharkhet and back to Kathgodam from Kharkia. This will be shared equally by the team members and is approximately around Rs 5000 and Rs 6000 respectively. Kathgodam/Haldwani is well connected by train to Delhi and Kolkata. While returning it is better to take overnight bus services to Delhi and then board the train to respective destination. If any trekker wants to reach Loharkhet and return to KGM by public vehicle then the options are: a) From Kathgodam/Haldwani you can get a shared Jeep ride up to Bageshwar in the morning. They start latest by 6 am in the morning. From Bageshwar, either you can take a direct booking car to Loharkhet, or take a shared jeep to Bharari. From Bharari, there are shared Jeeps available for Song but not after mid day. Loharkhet is another 5 Km uphill climb from Song. b) While returning from the trek, Shared or booking jeeps are available from Kharkia to Bageshwar (depending upon that day).
