Kilgore, Cleveland District Superintendent The Rev. Elihugh (Hugh) J. Kilgore responded to the nudging of God’s grace and answered the call of ordained ministry in 1981. Kiligore was baptized and confirmed at Moorefield United Methodist Church in St. Paul, Virginia, Big Stone Gap District. According to the National Center for the Children in Poverty and the United States Census Bureau Quickfacts, an average of 13% of American Children live in families living below the poverty line (having income below the $ 23,624 family-income poverty line). It is more pronounced in single-parent homes. The number increases in the South to over 20%. in Virginia, 25% in Tennessee). The Holston Area has an average of about 20% Poverty Rate (around 15% Mississippi show the highest southern rate with 32%. Further - in Appalachia and in Southern inter-cities, the 20% Southern rate sometimes doubles. This is unacceptable and America needs to do something about it. The Holston Conference Bishop and Cabinet have challenged the HOLSTON CONFERENCE to try to make a difference - in a nation and world that often seems indifferent. This year, each church is challenged to take an offering in behalf of CHILDREN IN POVERTY IN THE HOLSTON CONFERENCE. We can make a difference in our corner of the world. Pastors and Churches are encouraged to help this cause. Please encourage your churches this Spring to receive an offering on this behalf. Pastor’s needing written or video resources to assist the cause - may refer to the Holston Conference Website or contact Holston Conference or Cleveland District offices for assistance. Let’s make a difference. Way to go, way to give HOLSTON CONFERENCE AND CLEVELAND DISTRICT!!!
