Your gifts of time, talent and treasure are greatly appreciated! Without your generous support, the weekends would not be possible. Mark your calendars now with the dates for the fall retreats: Men: September 19 and 20 Women: October 17 and 18 We continue to celebrate the glory and the joy of this great and blessed season of Easter! Nature is celebrated as the darkness and death of Winter gives way to the life and light of Spring. Easter is not just a day; it is a season. Fifty days in fact, ten longer than Lent. We continue to celebrate the life and light of Easter Sunday and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is why our sanctuary remains decorated, why we continue to sprinkle baptismal water and sing the great Alleluia. It is the Universal Church's belief that a single day is simply not enough time to take in the beauty and wonder of this the day of our salvation. This is the season for Easter Sacraments, and so we look forward to the baptism of a number of infants, to our second graders' First Holy Communion and to our eighth graders’ Confirmation. This Easter we welcomed thirteen adults and three teenagers to the Church, and it is not too early to turn our focus to next year's potential candidates. Pope Francis, shortly after his election, penned an encyclical entitled Evangelii Gaudium, The Joy of the Gospel in which he calls every believer to witness to the grace we have received. It goes on at some length to encourage us to evangelize the world. People should be able to look to us and perceive how the Gospel has changed our lives and want that same thing for themselves. He writes: "A church which goes forth is a church whose doors are open." But those searching for meaning and purpose cannot enter unless we bring them. The Pope emphasizes that it is especially the work of the laity to do this inviting and welcoming. I think the parish should give itself the very realistic goal of welcoming twenty new members to the faith at our next Easter Vigil. How wonderful would that be?! On another note, I received a note of appreciation from our two seminarians from Kenrick-Glennon Seminary—Christopher Demers and Daniel Koko Oleko—who served here at Holy Infant this past year. They wrote the following: “We would like to say good-bye as we finish our time with you. We also want to say thank you, not only for your prayers and love but also your hospitality and attention toward us. It was such a rich and beautiful experience for us to get to meet many of you and offer support in the Christian life, but even more often to receive support from you in our own pursuit of the Lord and His call for us to journey towards the Priesthood. Moreover, to be with the Holy Infant Youth Group was a special gift for us, and it was so inspiring to work with so many faithfilled teens. We hope our presence was always one which conveyed some level of the rich love God has for each of you. May Almighty God keep leading, guiding, and protecting each of us!” I know that I speak in the name of the entire parish community in thanking Christopher and Daniel for their presence with us this past year and our pledge of prayerful support as they continue to discern their call to serve the Church. We will compassionately share so that no one lives without the necessities of life. Easter faith gives energy and drive to follow the Lord where He leads, as we participate in the inception of the new heavens and new earth. Vincentians have an important and dynamic role to play. The poor depend upon us believing and acting; the Church depends on us believing and acting; that “thy kingdom come” also depends on us. He is risen, the joke’s on the devil. Yes, it is true! 3 S E A H I L 19,2015 M In the book Saint John Paul The Great, there is a beautiful statement depicting his deep love and devotion to Our Blessed Mother and his daily recitation of the Rosary. While in Fatima in 1991, John Paul spoke of the Rosary, saying, “It’s our daily meeting which I nor Blessed Virgin Mary neglect.” What is telling about this statement is that Our Blessed Mother didn’t neglect her daily Rosary with him either. S .P P S M (S ’ H ) Below are a few more of the Promises of Mary to Christians who recite the Rosary: • It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means. The soul which recommends itself to me by recitation of the Rosary shall not perish! The shelter needs volunteers to prepare and serve dinner for the following dates: May 20 June 17 August 19 August 27 September 16 September 24 October 21 October 29 This can be done with a minimum of six people. For additional information and to reserve a date, contact Gene Bestgen at (636) 527-5385 or Mark Dischert at (314) 9746566. This is an excellent opportunity to meet our obligation to help the people less fortunate than us. • Let us all grant Our Blessed Mother her wish and pray the Rosary daily. C R.C.I.A. W ! Our birth would have been no gain, Had we not been redeemed. O wonder of your humble care for us! A H I C M 2-3 M “W A S U W 9-10 U C …. : !” Hope is a powerful force in the world. Hope helps end division. It relieves suffering and brings light in place of darkness. In the familiar Peace Prayer of St. Francis, we pray to become instruments of Christ’s peace, offering hope where there is despair. During the Easter season, we reflect on the real source of our hope—Christ’s resurrection from the dead. Jesus calls us to proclaim His message of love and mercy by the way we live our lives—to bring hope and healing to those in need. The Annual Catholic Appeal helps us do just that. The many ministries, agencies and apostolates supported by the Appeal reach out to people in our community. Together, we are bringing hope to neighborhoods, schools and parishes throughout the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Holy Infant Parish extends joyous congratulations and welcome wishes to Emily Bosak, Brandon Donat, Alexis Jennings, Brad Mock, and Michael Morton, who received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at Saturday’s Easter Vigil mass on April 4th. Congratulations and welcome also to Leah Borrowman, Katie Hancock, Christopher Hawk, Craig Hibbeler, Tammie Himmelsbach, Caleb Ipock, Stacie Kirchhoff, Grace Lester, Jackie Morton, and Julia Saak, who received full communion into the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist at the same Easter Vigil celebration. The parish R.C.I.A. team is extremely grateful that these wonderful people chose to make their journeys of faith with us at Holy Infant Parish. Our sincerest thanks also go out to their sponsors who selflessly supported them along their road of conversion. May God bless all our newest church members with joy and zeal as they start their new lives as Catholic Christians! Have you changed your phone number? Have you moved? Are you preparing to move soon? Are all of your children still at home and are they all included in your membership record? Do you NOT want your record published? If you have not already informed the parish office about changes to your record, please let us know now. Call us at (636) 227-7440. B D A We are in the process of updating Holy Infant’s annual Guide Book and Directory. This book will be the Who, What, Where, When, Why and How of our Parish. The book is being provided at no cost to our Church, including the mailing to each family, and again is being subsidized by local businesses that advertise in it. If you own or manage a business and would like to find out about advertising in our book, please call the parish office, (636) 227-7440, during office hours. Survey results by Guide Book Publishing show that 92% of families would rather patronize a Guide Book and Directory advertiser over a non-advertiser. It will pay you to advertise in our next Guide Book and Directory. H L I A N K C I N C I M LTontwitter No Life Night tonight! We want to thank everyone who made our Luke 18 Retreat possible. H R I P S 2015-2016S R Y Welcome to the 2015-2016 PSR school year at Holy Infant Parish. We look forward to working closely with you to help provide a Christ-filled school year for all the PSR students of the parish. Please know that as parents you are invaluable to this program. We recognize that you are the first teachers of your children and that no one knows them better or loves them more than you do. It is our goal, therefore, to work with you to support the faith formation of your child. The spirit of this ongoing program is to empower our children to live out their baptismal call and give witness to the Gospel by fostering their love of Jesus Christ. The Holy Infant PSR program accomplishes this in active cooperation with the children’s parents who are the primary religious educators. We strive to nurture each child and each family in the knowledge and love of God in order to enrich their faith life and to enable them to live out their call to stewardship in the community. Our program is designed to assist parents by offering weekly instruction to children in grades first through eighth by catechists who teach and witness the teachings and life of Jesus. In our program the children are educated in the Catholic tradition, Scripture, and Church teachings in areas such as respect for life and social justice. Our PSR program attempts to balance the religious instruction (message) with the experiences of Catholic community, service, and worship throughout the year. It attempts to meet the needs and understanding of all children and families, recognizing that there are varying degrees of catechetical background, understanding, and experiences. We strive to inform our children and families in the basics of the Catholic faith; assist the parents in forming the children’s ongoing spiritual development; and finally to be an instrument in transforming these children into Catholic Christian citizens with a strong faith on which to base their future spiritual growth, and to enable them to be evangelizers to the communities in which they will live. All that is accomplished by the grace of the Holy Spirit. Register now in the Parish School of Religion Office through May 29, 2015 without a late fee. After May 29, 2015 there is a late fee. We do charge a fee in order to provide the best catechetical program for your children, but we must stress that we want all children to be able to avail themselves of a religious education and will work with parents who may be struggling financially to accomplish that. A parent or guardian must come to register his/her child(ren); and if you have a child entering first grade or are new to the program, we ask that you provide us a copy of your child’s Baptismal certificate and birth certificate. You may register on Monday as we have class from 4-8 p.m. or you may call for an appointment and time that works best for you. Classes are filled on a first-come first-serve basis. Registering on time will allow you a choice of class times and usually our 4:30 p.m. session fills up quickly. After the 29th of May 2015 we will be unable to guarantee you a time preference. The following are the fees for registration, tuition, books: Holy Infant Registered Parishioners: Non-Registered Parishioners: One Child - $250 Two Children - $370 Three or More Children - $460 One Child - $340 Two Children - $550 Three Children or More - $730 A $100.00 family non-refundable down payment is due at the time of registration. Please see registration form for payment options. Registration forms including financial agreement and payments must be completed by May 29, 2015 to avoid a $50.00 late fee/family. A $25 change fee will be charged to change sessions after initial registration. We must stress again that we want all children to be able to avail themselves of a religious education and will work with parents who may be struggling financially to accomplish that. Bless us as we look forward to continued joy in the ministry of catechesis.
